I would think about it if offered, I also know a couple of friends with little or no ties. I don't think that anyone would object, and even if they did, if the pay is good, who knows. I'm surprised NASA hasn't done the same, or some smaller books leaving, asking the same question. If I were to leave, who's going with me.

is that right!

Please comment on books leaving to panama, I think our opinion is as important.

(panamas pros and cons, vote on leave or stay etc..)

I was just discussing this topic with a few guys here in the shop. Panama is o.k. but very restricting to bookies. The banking systems are all open to U.S. scrutiny. It's very dangerous. I know a couple of smaller books are going to take their chances. No licensing to operate a company to people who have a record and I don't know the parameters for obtaining licenses there.

is that right!

THE REAL STORY ABOUT WHO IS GOING TO PANAMA-

Lucy Ling, Sports911.com

An anonymous source has given me the real story about what is happening in Panama. Legendz Sports International (www.betthelegend.com) more commonly known as MVP Sports International (www.playmvp.com) the parent company for Beverly Hills Bookie (www.gotbookie.com) will be the first sportsbook to open their doors in Panama right before this year’s All Star Game. There are three front ends stores under the Legendz Gaming Corporation umbrella (all mentioned above). Who was licensed first is a mystery. Bet PanAm and Legendz, from here on referred to as LGC, have both been accepted and issued licenses in Panama and as far as our source knows will be the only two companies operating there for this football season. A company named Cyber Gaming holds the Master License for at least the next two years and they are the only people qualified by the government to conduct due diligence and offer sub-licensed contracts to perspective suitors. The government wants to avoid the industries ‘cowboys’ or not so reputable companies. You can plan on seeing other reputable Costa Rican sportsbooks following LGC to Panama once they see what the country has to offer. Start up, fly by night operations however will never be able to exist under the Panamanian law.

People on the Panamanian Gambling Control Board contacted Legendz after several industry advisors referred to their company as the most reputable. The people behind the scenes at LGC have built an impeccable reputation in the industry for speedy payouts and phenomenal customer service. The LGC office is getting its final touch ups and as soon as it is finished I have an open invitation to come down for a visit. Their office in Costa Rica was one of the nicest so I’m sure they left nothing to be desired with their new operation in Panama.

My friends at LGC informed me that some of the most enticing deal breakers for them included the infrastructure that Panama has to offer. Cable and Wireless is the primary service provider for telecommunications and because the fiber optic redundancy that connects North and South America crosses in Panama it makes the country the ideal spot to set up a call center. Dell Computers figured this out last year and has moved a majority of its operation to Panama. In addition, the labor pool is full of bilingual people from the financial district and many years of US influence in the region.

Many of you may have not heard of Legendz as they just launched the unveiling of their new name last October. They wanted to focus on their own identity as to not get their MVP confused with MVPBETS or MVP Sportsbook. This is a company that has done very little marketing but stood the test of times as we have all watched companies come and go. When customers are happy you don’t hear too much on the forums about the place they have an account with. The forums tend to house more complaints and gossip than anything. The people at LGC would believe no forum post means business as usual, however their Beverly Hills Bookie operation tends to get tons of post and the majority of them all positive thanks to co-owner, BHB Scott and his customer service staff. Customer retention due to good honest hard work along with a six year record of 0% Slow Pay is Legendz claim to fame. It is no secret how strong this company has become over the years. LGC forfeited on marketing the MVP name because of MVP Sportsbook. MVP Sportsbook ties up a substantial amount of marketing dollars each year, competing with Mega Advertisers like Bet On Sports. As to eliminate the MVP confusion LGC launched Legendz Sports International. In regards to MVP Sportsbook, the Legendz CEO said after meeting with Dalton and being so impressed with his professional, hard working attitude that he would personally endorse his once former same name competitor’s company for inquiring players looking for alternative outs.

The CEO of Legendz was one of the original partners in MVPbets.com. Because of a difference in business philosophy and a strong desire to focus on his own MVP Sports International business, he dissolved all of his partnerships. Legendz will be a great place for recreational players to consider for this football season. Shortly after opening their doors in Panama Legendz will feature their new software complete with a live feed internet racebook. The customer service of the entire Legendz family (BHB and MVP) is one of the best in the industry. Rest assured you will always get paid by this company but if you are a wiseguy your playing span will be cut short after which you will politely and quickly be liquidated. I’m sure many of you have learned this from dealing with their sister company Beverly Hills Bookie which is quickly becoming a favorite among recreational gamblers. The only problem I would anticipate for the Panamanian stores is a decrease in service for the wagering call center due to unexperienced clerks. The Mecca of Books in Costa Rica have created an incredible work force of experienced laborers to pull from for companies who operate there.

For Legendz this is a process that has been on going for five months. I can honestly say that not too many companies, good or bad, would incur the liquidation expense to up and leave Costa Rica. Most would find a way around that obligation via bankruptcy ect.. In accordance with their moral standards and Costa Rica law, Legendz will fully liquidate their entire staff thus proving, not only is Legendz one of the best places to make a wager it is probably the best company to work for if you are a Costa Rican or Panamanian employee. As previously stated in other forums, most sportsbooks will wait to see what happens with the first companies to operate in Panama. Legendz will be the guinea pig. They anticipate the industry to slowly make its way to the Republic of Panama. We wish them all the luck in the world and hope that their decision to move wasn’t premature.

Would go if it were the only option left and it paid enough, but really, really hoping it doesn't come to that.

With bookmakers looking to leave Costa Rica, the buzz is that Panama could be the next major hot spot for offshore sports betting.

One sports book supposedly will be ready to open there prior to the football season. Krackman, a noted sports bettor, writer and posting forum contributor even predicts there could be at least 20 sports books in Panama during 2004.

Panama seems like it has a lot going for it on the surface, especially when compared to Costa Rica.

From a lifestyle standpoint, Panama is a big upgrade over Costa Rica. Panama uses the U.S. dollar as its currency. That eliminates about half of any language barrier problem.

Not only does Panama have good working conditions and office buildings, but its technical infrastructure and communication industries are superior to those in Costa Rica.

But those believing Panama will become the new sports betting Mecca for American bookmakers may want to think twice before making such a brash comment.

Panama has been almost like America’s 51st state. Its relationship has been that close. The United States has wielded tremendous influence in Panama. So how hard do you think the Panamanian government is going to fight if the U.S. wants to extradite someone?

You could get arrested for jaywalking in Panama and you would be on the next plane back to America says one American bookmaker well acquainted with Panama. In other words, American bookmakers shouldn't pretend for a second they will be protected in Panama.

Panama has one of the biggest banking centers in the world, with a number of renowned international banks. These banks have to follow strict regulatory requirements that are unfavorable to bookmakers.

Unlike Costa Rica and Antigua, which need sports books pumping money into their respective countries, Panama has other things to stimulate its economy. This not only includes its banking industries, but the Panama Canal, which generates huge revenue.

Some are upset that the Costa Rican government has chosen to impose a tax on bookmaking operations. What's to stop Panama from doing something similar?

Like many Latin American countries, Panama has a corrupt government and an unstable political climate. If a Panama migration occurs of, let's say, 15 to 35 sports books in the next couple of years, it would be an upset if the government in Panama didn't take notice no matter who was in political power.

Of course, this wouldn't escape the attention of the U.S. government either. If the U.S. wants someone bad enough in Panama they'll get him. General Manuel Noriega can attest to that.

With the U.S. government's rabid anti-Internet betting stance, and an overzealous attorney general John Ashcroft in power, American bookmakers setting up shop in Panama have to sweat bullets knowing the U.S. could reach in and grab them in a heartbeat.

An American bookmaker may be able to enjoy life more in Panama than Costa Rica, but is that enough to offset the other risk factors?

is that right!

Darmin's Theory,

While I've never been to Panama, your post surprises me. First of all I've never heard anything positive about living in Panama, not even from my brother in law that's half Panamanian and was raised part of his childhood there. He says he would never live their and also hates the fact that his retired parents had to move back there because the cost of living had gotten too high in Costa Rica. Right now he can't wait for his younger sister to to graduate from high school and get her out of Panama.
Another thing I've always heard is that there's much more poverty than Costa Rica and that there's more violent crime.
As far as the language barrior, the rumors I've heard are that Panama has fewer English speakers than Costa Rica and clerks will have to be imported.
Lastly I have been very close to Panama in a part of C.R. called Palmar Norte, it was a couple degrees cooler than hell there. The locals in that area said it just gets hotter the closer you get to Panama.
Personally I dread the idea of having to go there.

kaya,
First it's Darwin's theory.
Secondly I placed wat was written on the front page of the rx for people to read. Thirdly, I haven't been to Panama (yet) but I know Panamanians here and in the States. Now, if it was so great there why would they want to leave? With that in mind if it was so great here why would there be so many ticos tryiong to leave as well. And with that in mind, if you had a book, and the gov. was trying to charge you a yearly fee, say $60,000 or so, wouldn't give you a license to operate but charges you anyway, and on top of it, charges you higher prices for internet and other services than in the States, what would you do? Then look at the options North, and South.

Darwins Theory,

First off, hope you didn't take my post as an attack, I was just honestly surprised.

I totally agree with you that services in C.R. suck and are expensive. In that sense I too see why books would look into other options.

Kaya,
No worries. I don't want to leave here either. Fortunately the shop where I work isn't leaving. However if the offer was good enough, I'd work anywhere.
