Holy moly, it is going to cost folks a fortune to heat their homes and businesses this winter.

Those of you living in warmer climates, be happy you dont have much concern about heating, but a/c will also cost more if these prices stay here.

Enough of us bellyache about gasoline, but high natural gas prices are equally costly.

RECORD HIGH this morning.

Yeppers natural gas at all time high. EVERYTHING going to skyrocket now as the oil industry can control the USA without fireing a single shot.

ESLR.......A stock I own that is involved with solar industry. Going to be widely used in areas of country that have plenty of sunshine. Government is putting money into many research projects. Some people realize we must have alternative energy.

I buy oil stocks as a hedge against high gas prices. Profits are very high for oil companies right now.

So have I. It is really running to the stars this afternoon. It will be a staggering blow to the economy this winter. Especially if it is a cold winter.

Heating costs were already outrageous. I am moving into an apartment this month where utilities are included in the rent and one of the main reasons for the move is to avoid paying the Ohio winter gas bills. Hard to believe it's gonna get worse. :sad3:

Where I live in Florida, southeast of Tampa, we don't even have natural gas. But during the summer, the electric prices were not that out of line. And that's with the A.C. basically running all day.

I remember when I was in college nobody wanted to rent apartments with electric heat.

In this area, most places are heated with natural gas. People are soon to be blasted with heating bills at least 50% higher than last year.

Heating oil is also going through the roof. With the panic about gasoline, refineries could not build heating oil supplies for winter without sending gasoline to the moon.

Stock market will fall similar to leaves on trees this Autumm as people going to be forced to cut back on other spending.

Pete, think I will spend some time this winter in LV. It may be more expensive to heat my home than what a LV hotel will cost. Also, in LV other fun to be found.

Hang in the uranium stocks regardless of what they do shortterm. Feel free to share with BB any info you and I have discussed.

People seem to be dealing ok with paying $3 for gasoline for ways to cut back some driving unless driving is how you make your living.

However, when these 50%, doubled, tripled and maybe higher heating bills start rolling through the mail, people are going to blow a gasket. One thing to drive less, but I believe when people are shivering in their living rooms the reaction will be outrage.

Forgot where it was, but read yesterday in USA today, that some school district gave kids a two day break to conserve fuel. I have a friend that is on local school board and he has no idea how they are going to this winter pay the bills to heat these massive schools. Many of the local schools were built during 1920-1940 and are poorly insulated.

Keep in mind, most of this move higher in natural gas/heating oil happened BEFORE the hurricanes! Natural gas stocks mostly in new all time prices....equals....the move higher is probably not finished.

This all points to the U.S. needing to find alternative fuels. I used to live in the Midwest and Ethanol (corn as a gasoline addititive) was much talked about, and
eventhough several plants were built in the area I lived, it still doesn't make much of a dent into the market.

In Hawaii, when it gets cold in winter, I make the unbelievable sacrifice of wearing long pants instead of shorts. Believe me, that is a BIG deal around here. It is a huge hassle for most local folks to wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt around the house. :howdy:

Just remember people Natural Gas is generally not storable. The prices have skyrocketed because 70% of the US supply is out of service right now thanks to the hurricanes. The good part though is there is little demand for it now by retail consumers. If they can get the supply up and running again in the next month there won't be much of a fallout. Its not like gasoline or heating oil, where it needs to be distilled and supplied in advance. It comes out of the ground and gets used almost immediately. They are working on using more LNG so it won't be so susceptible to such supply shocks, but that is a 20-year project at best.
