Florida has a new coach (Jim McElwain) who finds himself behind the recruiting 8 ball BIGTIME. Right now, he only has 10 verbals and according to Rivals, none of the eleven 5star or thirtyfour 4star rated players from the state of Florida are committed.

Meanwhile, former Gator coach Will Muschamp has garnered a several top recruits for his new team Auburn.

Unless a huge change takes place before signing date in a few days....not good for the Gators.

they had 15 2015 guys in this weekend. if they can get some flips in the group they will finish really strong. they sit at 80th on rivals right now....i expect them to finish in top 50, maybe even top 40

they are in the hunt for some really serious players this year....Cowart, Davis, Ivey, Jefferson, Holland....some of the highest rated players in the nation. if they can snag 3 or 4 of them they will be just fine. prefer they go to the SEC east and Florida and not end up at the barn

I think they end up somewhere in between 20-30 after Wednesday. Who knows though, maybe muschamp can snag some of those big DEs

Ivey and CeCe are gators, we'll see about Cowart.
really hope you get cowart (or, more correctly, hope the barn does not)

i can see you pulling ivey, davis, and cowart. surprised you're so confident in CeCe. I'd rate him 40% Miss, 25% Fla, 20% Bama, 15% LSU or Barn....another kid I'd rather see at Fla in the East than Miss or LSU in the West

i think you'll get Ivey, Davis, Conkrite, and maybe Cowart. would be a hell of a finish if coach Mac ended with those 4. personally think you have a better shot at Scarlett committing than you do CeCe but we'll know in 48 hours

Yes, it could be a disaster. But after this weekend they got 3 more commits (2 OL's and a S/Athlete from Dallas who flipped from K-State). They now have 14 commits. I expect we'll see 20-22 sign, and the class will be ranked in the top 30 overall (still near the bottom of the SEC). Muschamp left the program a disaster. I understand kids build relationships w/ coaches....but any kid who goes to Auburn to specifically play for Muschamp is got to be a moron (for not seeing how Muschamp single handedly ruined the program). I'd like to see UF land 2 of the "big 3", specifically Ivey (as the OL is a disaster).

This guy does a good job covering UF recruiting. He has a mock class and only Ivey of the "big 3" (Cowart & Jefferson being the other 2) is in it.

It is a disaster. The only thing left is fir Florida to try and salvage something. They just barely squeezed past Vandy and Kentucky. The rst of the SEC East and all of the SEC West is ahead of them. They currently rank 45th in the nation, which is terrible. They will do well to get to 25th. Remember, many of these recruits are way over-rated to begin with. There may be 100 players overall that are actually worth their ranking.

Agree w/ you. I want to see a top 30 class and a lot of OL's. Right now there are 5 OLs and the hope is to get 5-star Ivey.

Florida just got a 4-star RB tonight (within the last hour or so) who was committed to Miami earlier in the process, Jordon Scarlett. Big pick up and his star rating w/ move the overall ranking up quite a bit. I'm guessing into the top 40, as this is commit #15.

Florida adds 3 verbals on Monday night:

http://www.gatorsports.com/article/...orida-adds-three-verbals-as-signing-day-nears

After going more than a month without any 2015 verbal commitments, Florida coach Jim McElwain and his staff have landed eight recruits in the last week.

The latest pledges came Monday from Army All-American running back Jordan Scarlett and athletes Kylan Johnson and Chris Williamson.

Scarlett is the biggest addition thus far to McElwain's inaugural class, which now has 16 members. The recent Miami decommitment chose UF over Florida State, announcing his decision on FoxSportsFlorida.com.

Scarlett calls former Alabama running backs Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson his role models, and McElwain and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier's history with those players helped win him over.

“It's attractive,” Scarlett told The Sun two weeks ago after visiting Florida. “That definitely was appealing. The type of backs they've used on their championship teams are similar to my style, so that's a good thing for me.”

The 5-foot-11, 207-pounder rushed for 79 touchdowns and more than 4,500 yards in his high school career and won the Class 7A state title with Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas in 2014.

Scarlett had 15 carries for 121 yards and a score in the championship game on Dec. 12. Two days prior, McElwain held an in-home visit with Scarlett during his third day on the job and made him a top priority from that point on.

With the loss of Mack Brown and Matt Jones as well as Brandon Powell's increased role as a wide receiver, Scarlett is expected to earn early playing time alongside Kelvin Taylor and Adam Lane.

Williamson committed to UF over Michigan and North Carolina, announcing his decision live on Sun Sports.

“I was actually thinking about not going to Florida,” Williamson said on the telecast. “My dad was actually the one who convinced me to go. We took that trip (this past weekend) and we had a real successful visit. They showed me everything that I needed to see in a school.”

Williamson, who will play cornerback for the Gators, had just two scholarship offers around Thanksgiving time and saw his recruitment explode in the last two months.

The 6-foot, 185-pounder out of Gainesville (Ga.) finished his recruitment with 24 offers, most notably Auburn, Georgia, Notre Dame and his three finalists.

Johnson also visited UF this past weekend and held offers from Arkansas, Texas Tech and UCLA, among others.

At 6-foot-3, 202 pounds, Johnson is being recruiting by Florida as a defensive athlete and will likely end up at safety or outside linebacker. He will be the first recruit from the state of Texas (Dallas Skyline) to sign with the Gators since 2008.

Verbal commitments are not binding until prospects sign their national letters of intent Wednesday.

Tre Jackson, a 2016 cornerback from Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab, announced his decommitment from UF on his Twitter account Monday. The Gators now have two members (athlete Tyler Byrd and wide receiver Rick Wells) in their 2016 class.

Florida is ranked #21 by 247 Sports. I'll take it.

Florida landed 2 of the "Big 3" in Ivey and Jefferson (a 5-star OT and a 5-star DE).

Auburn can have Horton. I wanted the LB Holland that they got.

Florida has now signed just 1 LB in the last 2 classes....a 2-star that they go today. That's not good. In this day and age the LB isn't used as much (as most Defenses are in nickel & dime packages), but only one LB in 2 years is not good and will probably bite UF in the ass down the road.

Great finish by the UF coaching staff. 21 signees including two 5-stars. Going from a ranking around 100 to 21 in just a week....

I'll give McElwain an A+ for that effort.

I see then ranked 21 to 23. That is O.K, but certainly not nearly enough to challenge in the SEC. They are still years away. They were out recruited by 9 other SEC schools, 3 of whih are in the SEC East. It does not get any easier from now on. Florida hosts Tennessee and Ole Miss, then goes to Mizzou and LSU on 4 consecutive weeks from mid September to mid October. That, plus the Georgia game and the Florida State game will determine where and possibly IF Florida gets a bowl game.

Oh, so you're saying the SEC schedule is brutal? Tell me something I don't know!

Florida's roster is solid right now. It has some issues on the O side of the ball due to Muschamp's incompetence. However, he brought in Defensive talent. McElwain is an Offensive coach. He was brought in to straighten out the Offense. I give it 2 years and UF will be back to 9-3 or better, competing for the East every year....like they should be.

When five-star defensive end and ESPN 300 No. 9-ranked CeCe Jefferson announced his commitment to Florida over Alabama, Auburn and Ole Miss on national signing day, it appeared as if the Gators had locked up two of the top three prospects in the Sunshine State along with No. 1-ranked offensive tackle Martez Ivey.

Fast-forward nearly 24 hours and Jefferson has yet to fax his letter of intent to the University of Florida. According to Jefferson’s father, Leo Jefferson, Jefferson is still thinking about his decision.

“No, we are not sending it yet,” Leo Jefferson said. “CeCe is still thinking about it. He wants time to think about it.”

Rumors have circulated that Jefferson’s cold feet have been caused by Florida defensive line coach Terrell Williams leaving for the Miami Dolphins

Apparently the family knew Williams was taking the Dolphins job several days ago. This is an issue w/ his dad acting like a selfish prick.

Florida offered the job to Texas DL coach Chris Rumph....who, IMO, would be a big upgrade. He coached w/ McElwain at Bama.

Not a bad class for the new coach...could have been much worse.

Florida only has 10 starters returning...sometimes that ain't bad.

The work for McElwain will be difficult with only 4 returning on the offensive side.

Why he was brought in.....offense.

Yep, and the offensive cupboard is bare. Muschamp couldn't recruit offense to save his life (or at least his job).

He only signed 7 LB's in his 4 years as coach also....but 18 DBs (the position he coached. Coincidence?). He only signed 15 OL's in 4 years also....and only 8 of those are still on the roster. Pathetic. I get tired of hearing how he's "a great recruiter". My dog could recruit as well as he did go Florida! (and I don't have a dog!)

Tennessee scares me more than Florida...........as far as upcoming future years.

Just hope it translates to the field from a SECE prospective. Still love the direction of the Dawg program. The D will be nasty. CMR, even tho I don't like as a coach, always can field a great offense.
