BOSTON -1½ +1.55 over Atlanta
BOSTON -½ +1.30 (Period 1)
What a great spot for the Bruins to get their illusive first win at home. The Thrashers faced 45 shots last night in Detroit and there’s a good chance that backup G, Johan Hedberg will get the start here. Despite scoring three goals last night, the Thrashers scored just eight times in their previous five games and two of their three goals last night came in the third period when the game was all but decided already. The Bruins have to be hungry, as they’ve blown back-to-back two-goal leads but the good news is that they’re getting off to quick starts. This is an extremely talented Boston team with a slew of snipers and after consecutive losses you know they’ll be raring to go tonight. So, I’m going to split this up and play Boston in period 1 laying a half puck and I’ll play them to win outright laying 1½ pucks. Play: Boston –1½ +1.55 Play: Boston period 1 -½ +1.30 (Risking 2 units).

TORONTO +1.00 over Ottawa (REG)
The Sens hangover from last season continues to linger and it all starts in net where this team is running out of options and doesn’t know where to turn next. Dating back to last year, Ottawa has dropped 15 of its last 21 games and they’ve also dropped three in a row. This will be their third game in four nights and the tail-end of back-to-backs after they lost 4-3 at home last night to the previously reeling Ducks. That 4-3 score last night looks better on paper to the Sens, as they were down 4-0 with about eight minutes to go in the game. Meanwhile, the Leafs have life and plenty of it. They’ve picked up points in five of their seven games with only regulation losses coming against Montreal and Pittsburgh. They beat the Red Wings in Detroit, they took the Rangers to OT in New York, they came back from two-goal deficits to both Boston and Anaheim and we haven’t seen a Leaf team with this much enthusiasm in eons. Against the Ducks, the Leafs sustained a ton of pressure for the final two periods and they didn’t let up. Furthermore, the Leafs are gaining more confidence with each passing period and this assignment is just might be their softest one to date. Play: Toronto +1.00 (Risking 2 units).<o></o>

Los Angeles +1.68 over NASHVILLE
The Predators are definitely a pesky bunch and what they lack in talent they make up for in desire but I have to trust this is a definite overlay. The Kings don’t get much press or recognition but they went into St. Louis last night after a four-day layoff and made the Blue Notes look like a second rate club and held them to a mere 15 shots on net. In their prior game against Colorado, they held the offensive minded Av’s to just 16 shots on net. The Kings have not allowed a power-play goal this season and have now won three of its last four. Their only loss over that stretch came against the Av’s but again, they were the better team and out-shot Colorado 29-16. The Kings are playing a disciplined brand of hockey, they’re winning and they’re taking back a very sweet price in this one. Of course they can win here. Play: Los Angeles +1.68 (Risking 2 units).<o></o>

Washington +1.05 over DALLAS
The Stars are definitely not right and although the Caps are in a mini funk, they absolutely have the firepower and talent to pull off the minor upset in this one. Furthermore, Dallas returns home from a three-game trip against the Rangers, Devils and Islanders but despite winning two, they still weren’t sharp at all. The Stars are allowing an alarming number of goals and they’re allowing them against some offensively challenged clubs. The Caps are anything but offensively challenged and after three sub-par performances in a row, I expect the Caps to be extremely focused and raring to go in this one. This one just feels right. Play: Washington +1.05 (Risking 2 units).
