3-0 for the first time since 1993. If I didn't post this I wouldn't be doing my part as an Eagles fan (aka prick bastard). :finger: :aktion033

Eagles Remain Perfect With 30-13 Win

DETROIT -- There was no letdown, as Donovan McNabb threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Eagles cruised to a 30-13 win on the road at Detroit. The win gave the Eagles their first 3-0 start since 1993.

Terrell Owens, one of eight players to catch passes, caught six passes for 107 yards and David Akers added three second-half field goals in the win.

However, there is concern over three players injured in the contest -- right guard Jermane Mayberry, fullback Jon Ritchie and tight end L.J. Smith.

Here is how the game unfolded:

FIRST QUARTER

Eddie Drummond returned the opening kickoff to the Detroit 22-yard line after a 19-yard return. On first down, running back Kevin Jones was smothered by Jevon Kearse and Mark Simoneau for a loss of 1 yard. On second and 11, Jones again tried the left side of the Eagles defense and was stopped by Dhani Jones and Lito Sheppard after a 2-yard gain.

On third and 9, Joey Harrington tried a pass, but Kearse's pressure forced an incomplete. The Lions punted 51 yards and Reno Mahe had a 5-yard return to the 31-yard line.

The Eagles came out in a four-wide receiver set and Donovan McNabb threw to Owens for 6 yards. On second down, McNabb went to Freddie Mitchell for 9 yards to the 46.

Brian Westbrook carried left on first and 10 from the 46 and gained just 1 yard. Westbrook carried right on second down and gained 2 yards to the 49. On third and 7, McNabb threw incomplete for Todd Pinkston on the right side, and Dirk Johnson came in to punt. His kick landed in the end zone for a touchback.

On first down from the 20, Harrington went to Tai Streets for 8 yards and then Jones sliced through the middle for 5 yards and a first down at the 33-yard line.

On a pitch right from there, Kearse and Nate Wayne strung out Jones and dropped him after a 2-yard gain. But Artose Pinner carried to the right side and gained 6 yards, setting up third and 2. Michael Lewis then downed Stephen Alexander after a 1-yard reception, and the Lions came on to punt.

Mahe called for a fair catch at the Eagles 12-yard line and that's where the Eagles started their second possession.

McNabb went right to the air and completed a pass to L.J. Smith for a gain of 5 yards. Artis Hicks was then called for a false-start penalty, moving the team into a second-and-10 situation.

Westbrook was then stopped for no gain and the Eagles had a third-and-10 play. McNabb escaped pressure, rolled right and drilled a completion to Smith for a first down at the 38-yard line.

Injury update: Fullback Jon Ritchie suffered a knee injury and was taken off the field for X-rays. His return is doubtful.

On first down from the 38, McNabb went to Lewis for 5 yards and then went down the field for Freddie Mitchell to the Detroit 9-yard line. Mitchell, lined up the slot, ran a fly pattern against linebacker Earl Holmes and made a terrific catch.

From the 9, McNabb completed a pass to Owens for 4 yards. Then McNabb tossed a fade pass to Pinkston in the left corner of the end zone and cornerback Chris Cash was penalized for interference.

From the 1, McNabb tried to hit Westbrook for a touchdown, but again the Likons were penalized for pass interference, and the Eagles had a first-and-goal from the 1-yard line again.

McNabb then went into the end zone on a quarterback sneak and the Eagles had a 6-0 lead. David Akers added the PAT and it was 7-0 with 2:08 remaining in the first quarter.

The Eagles drove 88 yards in seven plays to take the lead. To date, McNabb had completed 7 of 8 passes for 103 yards. He was 4 of 4 for 82 yards on the touchdown drive.

On the Lions' first play on their next possession, Harrington rolled right and threw incomplete. On second down -- after a double penalty negated a Brian Dawkins interception -- Corey Simon penetrated and deflected Harrington's pass.

On third down, the Eagles pressured Harrington and he coughed up the ball as he was running forward. Roderick Hood recovered at the Detroit 29-yard line.

The Eagles went right to the end zone. And Owens, covered one on one by Fernando Bryant, ran under McNabb's pass for the easy touchdown and the 14-0 lead.

Detroit started its ensuing drive on its 19-yard line. Two carries by Artus Pinner netted 12 yards before the quarter expired.

SECOND QUARTER

From the 31-yard line, Pinner was stopped for no gain. On second down, Lito Sheppard had the coverage as Harrington threw incomplete for Roy Williams. Harrington's third-down pass for Williams was complete but two yards shy of a first down. Detroit was forced to punt.

The Eagles started their possession at their 13-yard line. Westbrook lost three yards on a first-down run. McNabb connected with Lewis for six yards on second down. However, a false start penalty cost the offense five yards. On third-and-12, Westbrook slipped out into the left flat, caught a lob pass from McNabb and picked up 14 yards.

With a fresh set of downs at their 25, McNabb to Greg Lewis netted 13 yards. McNabb followed that with a 6-yard completion to Pinkston. On second-and-4, Westbrook was stuffed for no gain. On third down, McNabb hit L.J. Smith on a deep crossing route for 16 yards.

On first down from Detroit's 40, McNabb threw incomplete deep for Owens. A short pass to Westbrook gained just two yards. On third-and-8, McNabb eluded a rush and fired a 14-yard strike over the middle to Mitchell. Westbrook barrelled up the middle for 23 yards to the Lions' 1-yard line. On first-and-goal, McNabb rolled out and connected with Mike Bartrum for the touchdown and a 21-0 lead.

Despite being backup on the ensuing kickoff -- due to a taunting penalty on Bartrum -- David Akers booted the kickoff 80 yards. Eddie Drummond returned the ball 18 yards to Detroit's 23-yard line. Harrington threw to Pinner for a pickup of 3. Then, Shawn Bryson barrelled up the middle for 9 more yards. Pinner grabbed a short pass for a 5-yard gain. On second-and-5 from the Lions' 40-yard line, Harrington connected with Williams for 7 yards. Strong safety Michael Lewis was injured on the play.

Bryson moved the ball to midfield with a 3-yard gain on first down. Harrington threw incomplete on second down and then was sacked for a 10-yard loss by Jevon Kearse on third down. Detroit was forced to punt.

From the 12-yard line, McNabb completed a 7-yard pass to Todd Pinkston. Following a timeout, McNabb threw incomplete for Chad Lewis. Then came the two-minute warning. A first-down carry by Westbrook was then negated by a holding penalty. McNabb's third down pass was incomplete, but a defensive offsides penalty gave the Eagles new life. McNabb threw deep down the middle for Mitchell, but it was incomplete.

Following a Johnson punt, Detroit started from its 36-yard line. Brian Dawkins blitzed and sacked Harrington on first down. Bryson got 7 yards back on a second-down run. Following a timeout, Harrington completed a pair of passes to Williams and quickly moved to the Eagles' 23-yard line.

After spiking the ball, Harrington went to Williams for 11 yards. Defensive tackle Darwin Walker was injured on the play. On the next play, Harrington threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Williams to put the Lions on the board with 20 seconds remaining in the first half.

Jason Hanson kicked kicks 41 yards on the ensuing kickoff and Reno Mahe returned it 22 yards to Detroit's 49-yard line. Looking to perhaps add three points, the Eagles ran a couple of plays before the half expired.

THIRD QUARTER

Philadelphia took the opening kickoff and started from their 27-yard line. Detroit sacked McNabb for an 8-yard loss on first down. On second-and-18, McNabb threw a short pass to L.J. Smith, who rumbled down the right sideline for 27 yards. McNabb then went to Pinkston for 9 yards.

Westbrook kept things rolling with a 6-yard run. On first down from Detroit's 39-yard line, McNabb connected with the Chad Lewis for 8 yards. Mahe then took a handoff around right end and picked up 17 yards. The drive eventually stalled at Detroit's 8-yard line and the Eagles settled for David Akers' 26-yard field goal which gave them a 24-7 lead.

The Lions started their ensuing possession from their 16-yard line. On first down, Dhani Jones had coverage on an incomplete pass to Stephen Alexander. Pinner then lost three yards on a short screen pass. Harrington ran for 5 yards on third down and the Lions punt team came on.

J.R. Reed returned the ensuing punt and returned it 18 yards. The Eagles were further aided by an unnecessary roughness call on the Lions' Bracy Walker.

On first-and-10 from the 38, McNabb threw incomplete deep down the right sideline for Chad Lewis. Westbrook then took a short pass and picked up 9 yards. Westbrook was hit for a loss on third down. Akers came on and booted a 47-yard field goal to give Philadelphia a 27-7 lead midway through the quarter.

Detroit started its next drive from its 24. Harrington threw incomplete on first down, but found Az Hakim over the middle for 13 yards. The quarterback followed up that with a 13-yard pass to Williams. Pinner then picked up 9 yards on a first-down pass and then moved the chains with a 2-yard run. However, an offensive pass interference penalty on the next play backed the Lions up.

On first-and-20 at the Eagles' 49, Bryson lost a yard. Harrington then hooked up with Williams for 15 yards. A third-down pass went incomplete, as Dexter Wynn had coverage on Williams. Williams was the target again as the Lions went for it on a fourth down, but the Eagles defense held and the ball turned over on downs.

McNabb threw incomplete for Chad Lewis on first down from Philadelphia's 35. McNabb and Owens connected on a pair of passes for 13 yards. Following a penalty, Westbrook gained 6 yards up the middle as the quarter expired.

FOURTH QUARTER

Detroit got a break to start the quarter as they knocked the ball loose from McNabb and the Lions recovered at the Eagles' 44-yard line. Andy Reid challenged the call, believing that his quarterback's arm was going forward. The call, however, was upheld and the Lions took possession.

Detroit couldn't cash in, as they went three-and-out.

The Eagles added three to their lead, driving 58 yards on 8 plays, including a 55-yard pass from McNabb to Owens. The drive ended with Akers' 39-yard field goal which gave the Eagles a 30-7 lead.

The Lions responded on the ensuing kickoff, with Drummond returning the kickoff 73 yards. From the Eagles' 29, Harrington rushed for 4 yards. Pinner then lost 4 yards on second down. On third down, Harrington threw a slant pass to Williams, who stayed on his feet, dodged tacklers and scored. The two-point conversion attempt failed, so the Lions trailed, 30-13 with eight minutes left in the game.

Philadelphia went three-and-out on its next possession and Johnson was forced to punt from near his end zone. Detroit mounted another drive, but came up short deep in Eagles' territory.

OK why:

Weak schedule?

Tackling problems (yeah I know they have them...they will not have them all year)?

Young secondary?

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. :)

No disrepect intended so please don't take it that way....

What if Westbrook again proves not very durable? I doubt Levens has enough left.

Just one of a few questions I have about this team....

I wish you good luck and give you major props for being such a great fan, but let's let a few more games play out......

PS....since you live in Philly, do you ever go to A.C???

Again.....no disrespect intended, but remember the Chiefs!!!!

Giants are improving....Baltimore may run for 250 on them.....or Philly may kill them both, 3 games are way too early to judge.

I hear you Intruder...but I think Bryan can handle the load. We've always been RB by committee so I think it's time to have a young explosive every down back in there with a veteran that knows this offense inside out and around (Levens) to help tutor the youngster and to give him a break on plays here and there. I think this is a good situation even with the loss of Buck (but having Buck would be nice). We also need Ritchie to be healthy so losing him today hurt the offense (especially since our backup FB was put on the inactive list right before kickoff) and especially the running game. Ritchie is an excellent lead blocker and can also catch passes out of the backfield and helps give 'Brook a break too so we missed him today after he got hurt (and he got hurt relatively early).

I think the progress the offense has shown to this point is incredible but I expected it. They are missing their best young offensive lineman in Andrews for the year (since he got hurt against the Giants) and the O Line has done a good job in the last 2 weeks. They even let Welbourn go to KC for peanuts because Andrews has so much more upside (plus Welbourn wouldn't keep his mouth shut about his contract). Even with the injuries to people like Buck and Kalu and Andrews they've been able to beat up on the teams they've played. The defense needs more time to gel but they have nowhere to go but up (shoddy tackling to this point is killing them). Even the special teams is stronger than I ever remember with Mahe and Reid.

It's early but this is the kind of start this team needs to get their confidence up. The defense will get better with a lot of new starters getting more comfortable in Johnson's scheme (which is one of the most complex defenses in the NFL). I just see a ton of upside to this team after three weeks but we can't afford any more injuries.

I go to A.C. a lot...but it's a dump anymore in most of the city. As for the Chiefs I love Vermeil for what he did here. Good luck to you this season.

Thanks Intruder G/L!

The Borgata is pretty much the only place to be anymore there. I like Resorts because it's classy but it's become an old folks home (as if most casinos in A/C haven't right). ;)

P.S. Hey Journey we can't wait for Halloween here...is Ray going to be able to handle getting schooled by TO? :toast:
