SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- They dropped more hints than passes Thursday.

They didn't just let the cat out of the bag, they paraded it around the Alamodome.

A few of Iowa's football recruits were invited to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl because they're considered among the 78 finest players in the country, not because they're skilled at keeping secrets.

The Hawkeyes came into this week with three players in this game who have publicly said they will sign with Iowa in February. But Thursday afternoon, there were seven players gathered for an "Iowa photo" while several of their parents took snapshots.

Unless this was a hoax, the Hawkeyes could be on the verge of harvesting an impressive crop of recruits this weekend. If it's a legitimate picture of the future, blue-chip offensive tackles Dan Doering and Dace Richardson, defensive lineman Ryan Bain and tight end Tony Moeaki could be ready to join an Iowa class that already includes quarterback Jake Christensen, defensive lineman Tyler Blum and receiver Trey Stross.

"It'll be a good turnout for the Hawkeyes," said Christensen, who has been selling Iowa to nearly ever top prospect with ears since he committed in June.

"We talked about starting a dynasty and getting all the top recruits from our area and all the guys who were considering Iowa to choose Iowa. It's close to coming true. You never really know until signing day, but after this weekend I think there will be a lot of pleased Iowa fans."

The Hawkeyes are in position to close out one of the nation's top recruiting classes and likely the best in school history, according to ESPN recruiting analyst Tom Lemming.

As of last week, Lemming had Iowa's class ranked the fifth-best group in the nation, behind Nebraska, Michigan, Tennessee and Georgia.

"You know, I've always considered the biggest part of recruiting to be perception," Lemming said. "Perception is something special is happening to a certain program, and Iowa's got it right now. There are a few schools that have it nationally, and they're certainly one of them.

"There's an air about Iowa for the past few months that something special is happening in recruiting and that they're building something."

Doering, Richardson, Bain and Moeaki are expected to announce their college choices Saturday. We'll update Hawk Central as the commitments are officially announced.

Bain, a five-star prospect from Bolingbrook, Ill., said he has already informed college coaches of his decision. He said his final list of schools included Iowa, Purdue, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

"I kind of want to tell (other people) when they ask me where I'm going," he said. "I've been telling them that I'm looking at these schools, and I've been doing that for a while. To be honest with you, I just wish I could get it done with."

Moeaki may have given away Bain's decision Thursday.

"Bain will randomly ask me if I'm going (to Iowa) or not," and only about Iowa, Moeaki said. "(He does that) about 20 times a day."

Moeaki said he had not finalized his decision as of Thursday afternoon. He said he narrowed his final choices to Iowa, Tennessee and Brigham Young.

"I think I might have an idea, but I want to make sure in the next 48 hours," Moeaki said. "I'm 85, 90 percent sure."

Richardson -- Moeaki's prep teammate at Wheaton-Warrenville South near Chicago -- said reports in Chicago papers that he had already committed to Iowa are inaccurate. He said he still is wavering between the Hawkeyes and Tennessee.

"Jake and (Tennessee quarterback recruit Jonathan) Crompton have been competing to get my attention because they both want me to go to their school," Richardson said. "I'm still open, but I think Saturday I'm going to announce. I'm still not 100 percent sure if I'm going to announce, but I think I am."

Christensen and Stross have been recruiting others this week, too. Christensen said he's been talking about Iowa to running back Jason Gwaltney. Stross said he has mentioned the Hawkeyes to receiver Fred Rouse. Both have made a pitch to receivers Nyan Boateng and David Nelson, who visited Iowa in December.

Nelson, ranked by Lemming as the No. 6 receiver in the country, said Iowa is at the top of his list with Florida, Notre Dame and UCLA. He said he plans to visit Florida and UCLA later this month, but said Iowa has "a real good chance of me going there."

"I really feel comfortable around (Christensen) and the rest of the (Iowa) players around here," said the 6-foot-6, 200-pound receiver from Wichita Falls, Texas. "We've really developed a great relationship in the one week we've been here. I'm having a great time with these guys, and hopefully we can get this going as a four-year thing."

Hawks getting the #1 RB in the country Kalvin Bailey and the #2 QB

To put things in perspective... Bailey chose Iowa over Georgia, Florida State, Miami and Nebraska.

The biggie will be getting Nelson. They need a playmaker receiver. Don't get me wrong, I like their receivers in place and in past but they've never had that upper echelon type receiver.

I think Bailey will start from day #1. We'll see how he performs once he gets on a college campus.

Sounds like a real stud. Iowa was in running for Emmit Smith years ago. Tons of talent here in Florida.

's

Remember Ron Dayne? Or how about Jerome Bettis? Both of those backs were big time bruisers at the college level...very difficult to bring down yet fast and slippery enough to make their opponents miss them on occasions. They were not just your average power backs. The Iowa Hawkeyes may have found their own version of 'The Bus', as they have tapped the familiar waters of Armwood, Florida to land one of the most highly regarded fullbacks in the country in Kalvin Bailey.

As was first reported by The Tampa Tribune and later by GoJackets.com of the Scout.com network, one of the country's top fullback prospects has committed to the University of Iowa .

Kalvin Bailey has made a decision on his college future and he's going to play ball in the Big 10 for the Iowa Hawkeyes. From his high school coach Sean Callahan, "Kalvin committed to Iowa." The news is just breaking today but according to his coach, "I think he did it like on Christmas morning."

<TABLE cellPadding=1 align=right border=0 vspace="5" hspace="10"><TBODY><TR><TD><!-- SpaceID=95862262 loc=LREC noad --></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>What helped Iowa to become Bailey's choice? Callahan said, "Yeah he's done with the visits. There are like two or three Armwood kids up there at Iowa and they all got to show him a great visit and the coaches do a great job up there with him. When he heard from all of the Armwood kids up there, I guess it was an easy decision for him."

Callahan is speaking about Hawkeyes Antwan Allen and Chris Brevi . Allen has been a three year starter for Iowa, as he stepped in as a redshirt freshman when Benny Sapp was removed from the team. Brevi is a redshirt freshman.

Bailey is listed at 5-feet-11 inches and 245-pounds, running an alleged 4.7 second forty yard dash. He possesses good vision and cutting ability for a player his size. He had 138 rushing yards and three touchdowns in Armwood's state title game earlier this month.

ESPN.com recruiting analyst Tom Lemming rates Bailey as the 6th best fullback in the country, and Scout.com rates him among the top 35 ball carriers in the nation at any position.

Bailey told TBO.com, the online arm of the Tampa Tribune that ``It seems like that (Iowa) is the place for me to be. The coaches are straight-forward. I just had a feeling this is where I'm supposed to be.''

Bailey rushed for more than 1,500 yards as a senior, and in committing to Iowa, he cancelled trips to Miami, USC and Georgia Tech, according to TBO.com. To get an idea of the type of player Iowa is getting, click on the links below to watch Bailey's highlight videos.

I think not. He's a great coach but he should leave now while on top. It won't get any better at Iowa.

One would have to believe a national title game is in the cards for the Hawks within the next 5 years.

Real good shot next year if they can get by intrastate rival Iowa State, one of the toughest opponents on the schedule.

WOW!

CHECK THIS OUT!

IOWA MAY BE HEADED FOR THE #1 RATED RECRUITING CLASS IN THE NATION!

The Iowa Hawkeyes are hoping that this weekend will payoff big time when a pair of blue-chip offensive lineman are scheduled to announce their decisions in San Antonio.

It has been long rumored that both Dan Doering and Dace Richardson are Iowa City bound, and that they were just waiting to make their announcements public this weekend in San Antonio. When offensive line prospect David Moosman (who ultimately gave his verbal pledge to Michigan) said that his scholarship offer was pulled by the Hawkeyes because the class was "full on offensive lineman," it appeared that it is all but a foregone conclusion that the talented pair of linemen will end up playing for Kirk Ferentz.

The class stands to get only better if defensive tackle Ryan Bain opts to sign with Iowa. Bain has maintained that it is a four team race right now with Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota and Purdue still all competing, but many believe that he will end up joining another four star defensive tackle, Alex Kanellis on Iowa's defensive line of the future.

I'm as big of Hawkeye fan as there is, season tickets for over 20 years and an Alumni. This all sounds great but; I will get excited when I see them play and produce. I've seen too much top notch recruits come in and do nothing i.e Blake Larson.

I'm confident that Kirk and more importantly Chris Doyle will get them going but let's just wait to see them in action.

BTW Kirk will never go to PSU. 1. Joe Pa will be selecting the coach and it will be a PSU person. Krk when he leaves will be going to the NFL.
