If you are lucky enough to have a # de Expediente for any of your residency request (work permit, permanent residency or temporary residency) you can go here:

http://www.gobiernofacil.go.cr/Migracion/Consulta_Expediente.aspx

Enter the # de Expediente or # de Solicitud.

If it doesn't pop up a screen almost immediately then chances are your screwed because that means your residency request HAS NOT been entered in their new computerized system. They are not PROCESSING old requests and you have to submit your request to their new system and start the "QUEUE" all over again no matter how long you've been waiting.

Else if you show up and it says "recibido" that means you are good, you just gotta wait.

If the screen pops up and there is not a green check mark then tell your lawyer to fix your shit, because chances are that they want updated documents.

NOTE: No matter what ANYONE tells you there is NO way to pay to have your queue position moved up so don't fall for that.

When did they start this new system? I applied in dec 2008 got approved in jan 2009. My appointment is next thursday thought it would be my final appointment I've paid all the money to get it. I took my number I got in january 2009 and punched it in (Expedientes) and it didnt come up. Then I took my number and punched it into solicitud and it came up as someone guy who applied in 2006. So whats the deal am I screwed?????

You need a copy of the "Solicitud de Residencia" form to know what the true number is. The form will have both the Expediente and Solicitud. I know it works because both my wife and I come up correctly.

Oh and the new system was implemented Janurary 2007. I also had my application processed extremely fast when we re-submitted (after waiting 4 years) it was done in 3 months.
