Banco San Jose of Costa Rica is having severe financial problems and is said to be in dire straits according to sports 911. This corporation holds many sports books funds and was advised to withdraw their money immediately! There are rumors to be very long lines of people withdrawing their money!

The government said they are fine. However, I know several book owners that went to collect yesterday that got their money in colones. They ran out out dollars.

MadCapper:

Pinnacle is located in Curacao. Some of the largest money collection agencies in this industry are operating out of Costa Rica; that might be the reason why you were instructed to send the funds over there.

However, this is just speculation on my part. The only fact I can attest to is that Pinnacle's HQs are in Curacao.

Hope it helps.

BTW, Banking in Costa Rica is a complete joke. In the course of 10-15 years, 1 major state bank was closed and various privately-owned banks have gone south. Bank account holders have not been compensated in most of the cases.

This is the reason why the biggest and best-funded operations in Costa Rica are not using the Costa Rican Bank System other than for overhead funding.

The bad news is that thanks to the US "big brothering" and war on terrorism, offshore banking is becoming more complicated by the day.

For book owners and related, one of the banks I would trust to manage payroll and billing settling would be Interfin. This bank is owned and operated by Jewish business men and they help manage huge business models; for example: I understand that the Eisenman family (owner of Burger King, Papa Johns, Church's Chicken and other franchises) runs business through them.

I don't know whats going on offshore but something is up! For 2 years I've been sending funds to Belize for Carib. Now all of a sudden all funds have to be sent to Antigua! Figuring its because of this court date coming up with the US and Antigua regulating things! JMO!

The Banco SJ thing seems to be strictly rumour at this point. No freeze has been put into effect at so far it has been business as usual. Also the books down here only keep what they need for payroll and expenses in the local banks. So I'm not real concerned yet.

Cuttin' to the fvckin' chase as usual. That is nothing but the truth right there.

Dude, I miss CR. I'll be looking forward to seeing you soon, as I might be flying down there in the near future. I hope we can hook up to drink a couple of brews and forget about achy hearts...

I hate I had to miss our appointment in the city, but an unexpected big thing came up and I had no way to call you to let you know. I left a message with your P.A. and told Dawg to please send my apologies.

I know you're pretty much retired, but I hope you have a great season, brother.

Take care

It was all a HOAX, nothing more than a RUMOUR...

The Bank of San Jose is SOLID, and despite the run on their banks, they remain SOLID with over $300 MILLION "IN LIQUID" available here in Costa Rica and over $1 BILLION with their parent GROUP.

The Financial Authorities confirmed that the Bank of San Jose is solid yesterday, and said there was no truth to the rumours.

For all you genuises that THINK they know something, anybook with 1/8 of a brain does not bank in CR. If your book wants you to send wires to CR, run. If they want you to send a WU to Maria Gonzales in CR then do it.

Bookmaking in CR has been illegal since the inception until last year when they collected a tax on the # of computer terminals books have. Well guess what? This year no one had to pay the tax because CR shut down that part of the govt. and no one went around collecting.

CR is still unregulated and is the wild wild west. The government will not help you so only deal with books that will mortgage their homes in order to pay you.

Would the members here recommend just staying away from all Costa Rican books?

Costa Rica, Belize, Cuaracao, Antigua, Panama, or any other Latin American or Caribbean country are all relatively the same. Don't expect any government to be much help with problems. The strength of any offshore book is it's reputation, there are plenty in Costa Rica that have excellent long standing reps.

"Bookmaking in CR has been illegal " completely wrong

If there is something illegal then there is a law that explicitly says that 'x' activity is not allowed

What has happened is that the bozos at the Legislative branch of the goverment have had a hell of a time approving a tax bill where the gaming tax is included and as such is still in the air, that is, the tax expired and has not been renewed, there is every intention to renew it so don't jump to conclusions ahead of time. There is NO law that says that bookmaking is illegal and also the local goverments (municipalities) that have a tax for egaming operations have been collecting it.......business as usual

That being said.............I am yet to see ANY dispute player-egaming site that is solved effectively by ANY goverment branch of egaming friendly countries in America (as in the continent of America)

Dante, brother... I was talking about certain Costa Rican hottie... but hey, I heard you and Lander get to hook up when I'm hitting Mrs. Lander like a piñata.

It's too bad you will be in Vegas this weekend... now I have to put up with Lander knocking on the door offering drinks and snacks, while his wife already has a mouthful...

Have fun, brother...

I hate to break this to you but there is a law about gambling and one needs to be licensed by the govt in order to accept wagers. Most sportsbooks were originally set up as data processing companies. The data they processed happened to be sports wagers and thats the loophole.

Do you remember a few years ago when the DEL REY and The Colonial made headlines because they weren't licensed. I'm sure Shelby and John juiced the proper authorities and that disappeared. I haven't been in CR since 1998 and really haven't kept up with any new laws but that doesn't keep me from playing at shops like CRIS and Jazz because I played with these guys before they moved to CR and will play with them when they leave CR. You want to know why? Because they PAY!
