Remarks by the President at Republican National Committee Gala

"And that's why I'm talking about Social Security. And the debate has only just begun. (Applause.) But I believe the side of reform is going to prevail, because the American people now are beginning to realize we have a serious problem when it comes to Social Security. And that problem begins with people like me."

Anybody (GWB) that said in 1978 that social security would be bankrupt by 1988, has no credibility whatsoever on the subject.

"Mr Bush, can you please tell us 3 mistakes in term #1 ?"

"Damn it, Condy, never told me to expect someone in the audience to ask a question that will make me think ..."

Why are some of you people afraid of spending your own money?

SS is already broke.Money that earmarked for SS goes to things like money for the arts so those creative wonders out there can put religious symbols in piss, on the taxpayers dime...thats where your SS is going into.

I mean how much of a loser must you be to be that dependent on goverment?

Don't you realise that if you drop dead the day after you start collecting SS it stops?
Wouldn't it be better to have an investment vehichle that would allow you to at least give the money YOU paid in to your survivors after your untimley death?

By the way any artist that has to get govt money might want to check into reality and look for real work.

This doesn't affect me one whit .. but .. for all those in favour of privatising SS, why not just call for its abolition entirely? Then you could actually and truly do what you want with your money (like put it in private accounts) instead of what the gov't wants to do with your money (which is to put it into accounts that they call private but are actually overseen by the gov't so really not private at all.)

Just saying ...

Yes and your just right.

The proposal is to make SS and private accounts optional or to use a favorite phrase of the dems, "Pro Choice." But that phrase never applies when it comes to education or money with the dems.

They could come up with some sort of bond fund or somthing.

I'll take what I've contributed plus interest at any time and they can close SS tomorrow.
But when it happens be prepared for disabled vets and regular citizens to go on the welfare rolls. SSI fills a gap for people that are not able to provide for themselves due to disability. What will you do with these people when they have no income?
