CBS Reporter Active in Covering Benghazi, Fast & Furious Announces Surprise Resignation

Mar. 10, 2014 2:44pm Oliver Darcy

Sharyl Attkisson, a CBS News investigative journalist who has been active in covering the aftermath of the Benghazi terror attacks and the Fast and Furious scandal, announced Monday that she had resigned from the network.

“I have resigned from CBS,” she announced in a tweet.

“It’s been one of life’s great privileges to work at CBS News and I’m sincerely grateful for the many opportunities I’ve had,” Attkisson added in a statement forwarded to TheBlaze.

CBS News spokeswoman Sonya McNair also confirmed Attkison’s departure in an email to TheBlaze.

“CBS News veteran Sharyl Attkisson is leaving the news division to pursue other endeavors,” she said. “We appreciate her many contributions and we wish her well.”

According to Politico, sources said Attkisson had grown increasingly frustrated by what she perceived as a liberal bias at CBS News.
“Attkisson, who has been with CBS News for two decades, had grown frustrated with what she saw as the network’s liberal bias, an outsized influence by the network’s corporate partners and a lack of dedication to investigative reporting, several sources said,” Politico reported. “She increasingly felt like her work was no longer supported and that it was a struggle to get her reporting on air.”

“At the same time, Attkisson’s own reporting on the Obama administration, which some staffers characterized as agenda-driven, had led network executives to doubt the impartiality of her reporting,” the political news website added.

Of course, she could never be agenda driven? Just like The Blaze and Brietbart and Fox News, and MSNBC. No agendas at all. :ohno: . The same network that had to apologize for their lies about Benghazi, and had to suspend Logan for pushing her right wing agenda, is now, suddenly "liberal" What a joke you are Casper. http://mediamatters.org/blog/2014/03/10/sharyl-attkisson-leaves-cbs-is-fox-news-her-nex/198429

Attkisson a year ago: Was she lying then, or now???

"No one has spoken to me about the Benghazi story, pressuring me one way or another. In fact our executives, our CEO Jeff Fager, our President David Rhodes have been encouraging in general of the kind of reporting I do. There are diverse range of views and opinions within CBS News, on the broadcast and among the producers who run the various broadcasts. It's hard to explain on a given day why they think something's news versus something else. They have a lot of stories to choose from and that's their prerogative so there is a lot of discussion on what best serves the public in those broadcasts. But I've never received any executive pressure to not do the Benghazi story."

If you stray from the regime's BS talking points, they will destroy you!

"She is currently at work on a book — tentatively titled “Stonewalled: One Reporter’s Fight for Truth in Obama’s Washington” — which addresses the challenges of reporting critically on the Obama administration.Feeling increasingly stymied and marginalized at the network, Attkisson began talking to CBS News President David Rhodes as early as last April about getting out of her contract. Those negotiations intensified in recent weeks, and her request was finally honored on Monday.

Reached by phone, Attkisson described her resignation as “amicable.” She said she will now turn her attention to the book, which is being published by HarperCollins, a division of NewsCorp (and not by Simon & Schuster, a division of CBS Corporation.) She declined to comment further.

Sonya McNair, the senior vice president for communications for CBS News, said in a statement: “CBS News veteran Sharyl Attkisson is leaving the news division to pursue other endeavors. We appreciate her many contributions and we wish her well."

CBS News confirms Sharyl Attkisson's computer hacked

CBS News announced Friday that correspondent Sharyl Attkisson's computer was hacked by "an unauthorized, external, unknown party on multiple occasions," confirming Attkisson's previous revelation of the hacking.

CBS News spokeswoman Sonya McNair said that a cybersecurity firm hired by CBS News "has determined through forensic analysis" that "Attkisson's computer was accessed by an unauthorized, external, unknown party on multiple occasions in late 2012."

"Evidence suggests this party performed all access remotely using Attkisson's accounts. While no malicious code was found, forensic analysis revealed an intruder had executed commands that appeared to involve search and exfiltration of data. This party also used sophisticated methods to remove all possible indications of unauthorized activity, and alter system times to cause further confusion. CBS News is taking steps to identify the responsible party and their method of access."

Several months ago, Attkisson had reported suspected intrusions of her computers, including her CBS News work computer, prompting CBS News to hire a firm to look into the hacking.

Friday's announcement comes on the heels of last month's revelation that the Justice Department had seized the emails and phone records of Fox News correspondent James Rosen.

To be clear, the federal government has not been accused in the intrusion of Attkisson's computer; CBS News is continuing to work to identify the responsible party.

Did they ever "identify the responsible party"?

Of course not!

One simple phone call and it was forgotten, like every other Obama scandal!

They tell both sides of the story and don't pick and choose much less delete those stories that do not fit their agenda. Your zipper is down Mr. Indpendent. LOL

She is going to write a book exposing the Obama administration. It will be one of many that will expose that administration once Obama is out of office. The evidence is there. When the Obama administration leaves office there will be a records burning bond fire in DC big enough to cause global warming.

Saturday morning Patrick Howley of The Daily Caller dropped another nuke on the fire that is Benghazi-Gate. Howley connects the dots surrounding a number of recent leaks coming of out CBS News about the fate of its award-winning investigative reporter, Sharyl Attkisson.

From the beginning, Attkisson has been one of the few mainstream journalists willing to dig into the September 11 terror attack in Libya, and the Administration's response to it. Fearing the story might lead exactly where it did yesterday with Jonathan Karl's bombshell report, the mainstream media has poured most if its energy into wishing the story away or playing Palace Guard for the White House.
Attkisson's dogged pursuit of the truth has not only pitted her against a media desperate to protect Obama, but also, apparently, against her bosses at CBS News, one of whom is the brother of a top Obama official.
Moreover, CBS News president David Rhoades is not only the brother of President Obama's national security advisor, Ben Rhodes, but ABC News reports that Ben Rhodes was very much involved in the editing of the now-infamous CIA talking points.
    So…
    1. According to ABC News, Obama's national security advisor Ben Rhodes was deeply involved in the editing of the CIA talking points.
    2. These same CIA talking points are central to what many believe is a White House coverup.
    3. Ben Rhodes is the brother of CBS News president David Rhodes.
    4. At CBS News, Sharyl Attkisson is one of the only mainstream media journalists with the dogged determination and moral courage to demand the truth about the White House's involvement in the CIA talking points.
    5. For months now reports have surfaced that Attkisson's bosses are unhappy with her, that she has trouble getting her Libya stories on the air, and that she's being accused of engaging in "advocacy."
