Putting $50 on Greece +650 to win it all

Did some research on this team and they simply have the best balance of chemistry and talent in the tourney. Spain and U.S. obviously are more talented but they haven't been together as long as this Greek team has. The Greeks have the guard play to really test the U.S. press and are extremely discipline defensively. Those of you investing on the U.S. -340 and up please save your money. There is no value in such a wager. This U.S. team has not proved anything thus far to recommend such a bet. They only have two bigs and lack perimeter shooting. Redd is a good open shooter, Kobe is inconsistent, and their points are either average to sub par from deep. Kidd is a huge liability and Coach K has already shown that hes not confident with him out there when things get tough down the stretch. Not including one of my favorite players Joe Johnson was a really big mistake. This should have been their 10 man rotation:

PG Paul-Williams
SG Johnson-Redd
SF-Kobe- Wade
PF-Lebron- Carmelo
C-Howard-Bosh

I would rotate them every 5 minutes (thats once a quarter) with seeing whos hot in mind (and adjust come crunch time).
Sometimes I wonder how this brain trust can continue dropping the ball. Then again the same can be said with the middle east, foreign policy, electric car, health care, etc.

What I'm going to do is bet against the U.S. each half. have to see if any of my books will be offering 2nd half bets for this to come to frution. I'll play the first game small and then start upping the ante once it gets to the big boys (Greece/Spain). I don't see this team playing consistently throughout this tournament (as they have shown thus far in exhibitons). This team has many weaknesses and European teams are to savvy not expose them.

If you have any opinions about this very subject then go ahead and appease yourself by making them known.

VoR, I agree with your assessment.
I too, think this team is overhyped and can be pushed around in the pivot.

People don't remember how in '92 we had players like Ewing, Robinson, Malone, and Barkley (all Hall of Famers). We now have two centers who are half the players they were (our starter can't hit 5 footers little less FT) and SF playing PF.

I know people are looking for reasons why this USA team can't win, but they really should win this tournament 99 out of 100 times, and go undefeated about 70 times. They might not be absolutely perfect everywhere, but there is probably not even 5 other players in the tournament that would even make team USA, let alone start. The fact that they lost last Olympics makes it even less likely they won't win gold this time around. That would just be humiliating for the players because on paper they're 100x than any other team.

Average NBA teams would stand a chance of winning this tournament against the Euro countries, so an All Star team USA should kill everyone. Good luck though.

Rail, you're one of the few posters here who's opinion I really respect, but these are the best players in the NBA. If you're talking about overall IQ, okay they might not be the smartest people in the world, but they have a very high basketball IQ. Kidd, James, Bosh and Bryant are some of the smartest basketball players I know of.

Vegas know that Joe Square is going to bet the US throughout the Olympics. They are over inflating the line on purpose. They have not impressed me one bit, I caught a replay of the game against Australia today, they still have problems defensively. And even if they are blowing out a team by 30+ in the 4th quarter, you have garbage time to worry about. You are better of taking the points in their games IMHO.

I don't think people defending the US are talking about the spread. I think they win it all easily, but they could also go 2-6 ATS and I wouldn't be surprised at all. Of coarse their lines will be inflated by 5+ points every game most likely because North Americans recognize the names and will be cheering for them so that is who they will bet. I'm just saying no team will contend for the gold with these guys. I'd be glad to take a bet with anyone that the USA goes undefeated throughout the tournament.

Bosh is one of the stupidest players Ive seen in my life. It starts with there coach, they are doing the same things Duke does, which is why rat face always gets exposed when playing teams they dont out athlete. team usa was in such a hurry to turn it over last night. NBA's best players are not on team USA. Duncan, Ginobli, Bowen, Nash, Kirilenko. These kids all are lost out there. Bosh and Wade are a joke. Bryant and JAmes fight over the ball and neither can shoot very well. They drive and beg for ref to call a foul, which the refs ususally do.
