It's true. You really do have to do squats. for 80% + of the people it's the only way youre going to get big gains in everything else as well.

I guess I must be the only one who LOVES them. Squats are great, use your whole body, the feeling of almost puking.. great.. ok sorry I'm a meathead.

Hated cardio and crunches.

If a chick ever asked for some help with a exercise program and I had to help her, I made sure donkey calf raises were in the routine, at least 10 sets every workout. Otherwise than that, I never did like them, nor do them.

its time for you to work on your forearms. Your forearms could be weak and thus making you lose your grip when you get to the higher weights.

sure. When I started to learn how to power lift in High school my coach told me that tip and when I stared to work them my grip got awsome! I try not to use any straps when I do back. I use a bit of chalk when I deadlift heavy but thats about it.

Here are some forearm stuff you can do..

Take a str bar and use an overhand grip and curl upward so your palms are facing the ground. Its like a modified hammer curl but with a str8 bar. Those are awsome and also teh good old behind the back curls with a str8 ball.

thanks alot! I`ll do that tonite...

say, do you have any neck workout tips? I have a pretty skinny neck...and I feel almost as if my body is out of porportion because of it...Id like to grow it about an inch. I thought doing shrugs would grow my neck, but apparently its not working for me :sad3:

Another qeustion....how long before your lats started to show? Ive been working out hard for 6 months now and my lats are finally beginning to show (without flexing)....is that normal? Am I doing something wrong? I do about 6 different back workouts - is the muscle that big that it takes that much longer to grow?

thanks for ur help chanman

have you tried doing overhead shoulder presses with a barbell? Those are nice also Lee Haney made these famous and I love them but behind the back shurgs. I use the smith machine and shoulder width apart and slowly shrug UP toward your ear for a good 3 sec count. Those kick ass!

Now lats.. yeah those are hard sometimes. I vary my back workout to hit them. I use wide barbell rows to help them out. Some others I've used are wide lat pull downs and prob the best.. regular pull ups and then weighted pull ups. My lats are also kinda my weak point and I had a few judges tell me at my competitions. Once i got back to the basics they started to grow again. The back can be hard to do cause there are soo many parts. The inner back the lat spread so to speak. some others ive used to help my lats and back overall are using cable rows but you standing and at a pulley station and from the bottom pull and flex your back.

I hope that helps. If you need more let me know. I can prob post more after I get out of this meeting blah....

squatting, the correct way, kills me everytime.

Totally agree.
I have heard squats are the single best exercise one can do.
Squats are the one exercise that make me seriously sweat every single time.
I go to the gym often, but always find a way to avoid the squat torture. I am lucky if I do them twice a month.
