College football is my favorite sport but sometimes I think the sport has gone a little crazy. A 14 year old quarterback from South Texas (Somerset) has committed to play football for LSU. Why? The kid is in the 8th grade for heaven's sake. He doesn't have a clue what he want's to do next week much less four years from now. This is getting stupid and good sense seems to be lacking from both parents and school coaching staffs.

Just my opinion....welcome yours.............................:ears:

Yeah Coach, I believe he's the nephew of 1990 Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer.

My view/position is that kids in junior high school are too young to be making committments to major universities. Hell, they change girlfriends every three weeks.

All this does is put unneeded pressure on a young man needing time and help just growing up.

Clover....Look at what mothers do with their young daughters now days (lower elementary-7-8- and 9 year-olds-even younger), dressing them-up wearing provocative costumes including bras, applying lip-stick and adult make-up that a "pole-dancer would envy, prepping them for dance competition. The kids
today are being pushed (usually by their parents) at a younger age than ever. The 8th grader committing......it doesn't surprise me one bit.

I think this is about Miles drawing attention to himself and his program as anything else.. These early verbals don't mean squat. If they ever came out with a rule that says if you get a kid younger than a junior HS commit, you are bound to that kid contractually, watch how fast they stop doing these publicity stunts.
