This should be a very exciting fight. Edwin Valero will be the one to make this bout exciting.
Now that Valero will be facing an opponent with at least 20 pro fights under his belt we should not pay so much attention to his 12 first round knockouts. What can not be ignored is the handspeed, punching power, and counter-punching ability that Valero possesses. Valero had a successful amateur career that consisted of approximately 100 fights.
Valero should win this bout because Lorenzo has lost each and every time that he has faced a prospect/contender. Valero is definitely a prospect, but already considered a contender by at least one of the major sanctioning bodies (#12 by WBA) at Super Featherweight.
Although Lorenzo has never been stopped, it would be fair to say that he has never faced a fighter with the speed and punching power of Valero. To add to his troubles, Lorenzo is facing a southpaw in Valero. And in boxing, everyone is susceptible to the big punch, especially when a fighter's skill level is roughly average. The best fighters on Lorenzo's resume are Juan Diaz and Courtney Burton. I am not high on either of those fighters. They are both tough and posses good skills, but I do not think that either will ever reign as a major title holder.
I think that there is a 70% chance that Valero wins by KO. If it goes the distance, he should get the decision. Conditioning should not be a problem for Valero.
