Three favorite brands are: Padron, Tatuaje, and La Flor Dominicana. Try a LFD maduro chisel on a full stomach and you will go down a slippery slope. If you are looking for special cigars: search for Opus X by Fuente or Davidoffs. Peace.

I had a friend who had a friend in Canada. His friend would take the bands off the cigars and mail them to him. Then he would let him know which cigar was which brand.
It's impossible to tell they are Cubans without the band.

tonight I had two cigars...
1. Cohiba Siglo II - For a Cuban I was really underwhelmed. Unbelievably great and smooth draw and a very mellow flavor with what I would describe as a peppery wrapper. Nothing about this cigar made me want another any time soon. Not a bad cigar but on my uneducated rookie 1-10 scale this cigar got a 6. About half way through flavor totally changed for the worse and the heat upped to a bad level and I killed it.
I realize that many will say only to smoke half of the cigar, I prefer to think (early on) that I am of the school that a good cigar can be smoked longer and deeper.
2. Los Blancos Criollo - Totally different cigar. Very nice "pre-smoke" (my own term) where I really enjoyed the wrapper. From there it was slighty downhill. From what I could tell it was a nice smoke pretty mellow flavor and not the best draw but a very even burn. At the end of the day nothing memorable. I gave it a 6.5.
With the amazing variety available to try I cannot see smoking either of these again.

When you consider price cubans are overrated. There is some very good cigars coming out of Nicaragua over the last few years that the gap has lessened. There are some exceptions in that some cubans are worth the extra money but overall certain non cubans stand up very well for much less. GoGo has smoked many cigars to the nub. It really depends on the cigar. For the most part cubans tend to get more bitter towards the end but have had alot of non cubans that smoke great right to the end. If the cigar still gives you pleasure then smoke it to the nub.
Would suggest you purchase online subscription to cigaraficionado.com as you can access all of their ratings for cuban and non cuban. They also have a very good forum where you can discuss certain cigars w/many more than are on here. Subscription runs like $50 a year but is well worth it particularly if you plan to smoke alot in the future.
