Garner pulls Lidge to pinch hit with Backe. Real sweet move. Guess he has little post season experience with Brewers. Or he is an incompetent fool.

FWIW - Lidge had already pitched 3 full innings and Garner had no other position players to use to pinch hit. Micelli was a diaster looking to happen though. Just warming up he looked wild.

Good points Wil. But he only had 32 pitches, and you have to ask yourself why pinch hit for a pitcher, with another pitcher, with nobody on and two outs. Was Backe going to start a two out rally? How did Garner burn up all of his position players so fast? He has made so many double switches, sometimes pulling hottest hitter? Is he overmanaging? IMHO, he has easily been the worst manager in the playoffs, by far.

The pinch hitting move was a non-factor if Lidge was all done no matter what. Sure Lidge could have batted but he might (who knows) be a terrible hitter. As far as Lidge going another inning I have to believe if the Astros had scored before Backe pinch hit he would have stayed in for the save. In Garner's defense he had to think about game 7 - letting Lidge go 4 innings while still only tied 4-4 would have been a dangerous risk. The double switches only cost him the Backe strike out, Micelli had no shot of keeping the game tied however.

Just for the record Lidge has batted 7 times in 3 years as an Astro that includes 155 appearances in relief but does have a single and a double to his credit both hit in his rookie year of 2002. Brandon Backe was 5 for 16 this year with a homer and 6 RBI hitting .313.

The double switches I was refering to were in the Braves series. I am a little baffled how you could be out of position players, so quick. And again, Lidge is a stiff at the plate, I agree, but Backe is not exactly Beltran. Why not save Backe for a sacrifice or a real scoring opportunity. I would be more concerned with pitch count. Closers have been putting in 40+ pitches this post season, and coming back next game and firing away. Agree, that is a very tough call on Lidge. But why use him 3 innings, then hand the ball to Miceli? Garner will get ripped again, bigtime tomorrow's columns. Wil, any numbers on Backe's pinch hit history?

Jorneyman,

I called my own number. Hous ties it up and then a walkoff HR!

I have been on fire lately!

Also called Roger Clemens to Win it in 7. And I like the fact that they can use Roger and Oswalt tommorow!!!

HOUS is +111 right now at PINNY!

I am deciding whether to wait and see what the line does or take it now!

Any thoughts on where this line will end up?
