Few years back I asked a buddy if he was interested in getting in a football pool "shit sure never been in one and no one ever asked me before", what do I do" ? He's not a regular player, 3 young kids, busy family life but would love to play and reason I asked him.
Since then he and I have cashed in that yearly one which I've never cashed before in almost 10 years. Last year I asked same guy if wants in Survivor, "sure tell me how you play". We went right to the end and lost out in final week but before final week there was a quarter split between last entries with three quarters to finalists. Then last year asked him if he wanted to go in on ECC squares pool. He did, we cashed, this year same thing. He messaged me yesterday morning saying "we need to play lottery every week" so we starting this weekend.
Have to share other side on the pendulum.
If one has played long enough then chances are they had a "Mooch", I had one for so long, really really bad, exactly out of BRONX TALE with dice scene and track scene. In early 20's I told local book "if Carm calls in a game I've already called in or I'm on same game cancel my bet, don't want us even thinking about same game" He laughed because he knew, he heard of how he jinxed me so many times so he did "Mooch just called in Celtics, you want me to cancel yours" "yup, thanx"
Haven't seen The Mooch since 2008 and seen him at funeral viewing few weeks ago. Told my daughter "here comes the Mooch call the undertaker, please go get my oxygen tank"
When he came up to me, handshake we started laughing because of our known history and I told him "please Carm I don't want to go yet, I've still not recovered from COVID" and I was holding my heart like Fred Sanford. ?
Just inside to side of main doors we shared some stories and had ones around us laughing especially when I made a motion to funeral person saying "put him in a coffin". My family got to hear the stories I told them about my Mooch after they watched Bronx Tale and they heard them stories first hand from The Mooch.
I now have a good luck charm
so the pendulum certainly swings both ways and I'll take it.
