YPO, I agree that the BYU defeat or should I say ass spanking was a big win, but it wasn't the biggest win in terms of who Hawaii defeated. We already whooped their asses many times in the past by sort of the same scores. Most notebly was when Hawaii blasted BYU at Aloha Stadium on the eve of Ty Detmar receiving the Heisman Trophy Award. Yeah, that night Hawaii really made the voters look stupid.
Anyway, I was meaning that this victory was big, not because we won it against an SEC team, or that we were underdogs when we did it. It was a BIG victory because of who we defeated. Hawaii can lay claim to defeating probably the most legendary football programs ever to exist. Alabama is the winners of the most National Championships with 12. They probably have been associated with the most legendary coaches of all time, ex Paul "Bear" Bryant, who had a movie made after him. He is responsible for winning 6 of those titles when he was at Alabama.
Speak of Alabama, and the name says it all. Yes, they are having a rough time this year. But they are because of the coaching shuffles and the NCAA suspendsions that they are serving. Still, and I am in no way making excuses for their lose or for why Hawaii won this game. No, not at all. Alabama , is Alabama, and no one and nothing will take away from them and who they are. That is simply, that they represent what college football is all about. They have achieved what all other colleges, besides probably Michigan and ND winners of the second most titles with 11, only wish to achieve. Hell, most colleges wish to only win their conference, not to mention get ranked, and cant possible even imagine winning a National Champship, especially with BCS setup eliminating most teams this opportunity.
Alabama, their football dominance in the past, which was not that distant, still and will probably never lose the respect, fear, praise, noteriety, or legendary status that every team, coaches, or programs give them. Like I mentioned earlier, Alabama name says it all. This is why, this win, though big, is not bigger, more important, or even as monumental as who it was that Hawaii won against.
Also, I like to add that Alabama is not a bad team or a weak team this year. They are actually a very strong team with alot of talent. They are just a team who got caught in the middle of coaching changes, which would fvck up any program as it needs time to jell. Plus, I think people are forgeting that this team record of 4-7 is not due to a weak team, but due to playing the toughest schedule of all NCAA Div 1 schools. This Alabama team also gave Oklahoma its hardest game , and came within one play of beating them. Also, teams who has players on the verge of setting records also cant be so weak. So I must give credit where and for whom I see fit.
This monumental victory over Alabama, brings more national recognition for Hawaii, especially because this game also was a game that had an impact on this years BCS game for the National Title. This win, probably helped USC secure their chance at the National Title game, instead of LSU. But in all fairness, USC and their acceptance of playing Hawaii on National TV, is what has probably prepared Hawaii to take on this monumental challenge again this year against Alabama. So both programs was rewarded by their game with eachother.
This monumental victory, was huge because of the impact it will have on recruiting, funding, support, recognition, and respect that the Hawaii football program will be benefitting from. But, not only the football program will benefit from this. The whole state of Hawaii, will benefit also because of this win. This is why, some of the news programs started off their report on this Huge Win.
With these things being said, I know that other people both here and on the mainland, won't agree with me, or feel how important and big this win over Alabama was. But that is expected, and they cant be blamed for it, because they do not, will not, and cannot benefit from this victory, it is just the fans of Hawaii and the Warrior football program that can.
With that being said, I must also reflect again that the Byu game is not as big because it could not have impacted Hawaii the same as a defeat of the Crimson Tide could have and now will have. This victory is the most historical and hugest victory that the football program has ever had. And this victory, because of who we beat can strongly hold rank to the second most historical sports victory in the history of the State of Hawii. Because, I don't think that any victory could ever top that one achieved by our NAIA basketball team Chaminade over Ralph Samson and his #1 ranked Virgia Cavalier's.
So, for now this win is the largest on the books , until the football Warriors can possibly beat Michigan, ND, Oklahoma, Miami, or Florida St., if and when they come to town. I know that this is wishful thinking, but this win over this Legendary opponent, was also just a dream until this past Saturday. So, again anything is possible. Also, I hope that I didn't offend any supporters or programs by only listing the above schools. I just listed them as being the schools who have had the most dominance in college football from past to present. Still, if I did, then my bad.
Well, to end, I would like to again remind everyone that senior second team QB Jason Wieldon will be at the controls for this weeks Boise St. game. So far, I think Vegas has not reflected this as they may not be up to speed on it, or because QB Timmy Chang is still available to come in and play, cause they for one know that one bad game does not make or break a player. And also, they know that this time next year, he will be the new passing yardage leader in NCAA history. Hmmm, wishful thinking again on my part, hoping that they would forget these facts, but they are the ones with the bucks, so I guess I cant assume this. But hey, watch the line cause anything is still possible with all the other big games on the board. Later, I will be sharing another big tidbit of information that I sure those on the ball will already have. Still, this information and situation has not occurred in some time and could result in the same outcomes as in the past. Stay tuned for this. Aloha CC.
