It was an election tool. Obama is antiwar, period. But saying, "Iraq is the wrong war. We must dedicate our resources to the real WOT in Afghanistan," was a way for him to clip his opponent while making himself appear to be CIC worthy. If he would have taken the "Get out of everywhere now" approach he really embraces it would sound too much like Ron Paul and alienate too many in the Middle and on the Right. It was about getting elected, nothing more.
