this is a surprising play for this board.......so many "sharps"......duke hasnt missed a beat- Covered every tourney spread -every game.....now we get a managable spread with a "just win" game at -2......
i love duke, ive rode them all tournament, and i wasnt fortunate to get -4.5 last game and I had -5.....and even Mr official was on my side and got me my winning ft in meaningless scenario with .3 left in game.....it was a foul, and i know it SHOULD be called.
Im only bringing it up because Maryland was exact same -4.5 or -5 a week and a half ago, they were up 3 and Valpo milked the final 30 secs and never got a shot off, Maryland got the ball on a loose ball under 3 sec left..... Valpo guy smacks Evan Smotrycz in the face.....damn near a flagrant, but there is time on the clock be it ever so little.......BUt they are not Duke, and Mr Official decides he has a plane to catch..........what I am pointing out here is the seemingly arbitrary enforcement of the rules when "COMMON SENSE" prevails......
They called the ARIZONA team out of the fricking locker room so Duke could shoot FT and get the cover..........I know its a "rules are rules" scenario, but plenty of times it does not happen that way at all........remember, conference championship week and the first round trny, aND EVEN THE EARLY NIT was dominated by dogs winning outright and/or covering spreads.......If u had Zona +5 ( and i dont now why u dom i think there PG is better off at a D-2 or D-3 school) you had to feel raw they went out of their way to take your $$$$, but what it showed the average bettor was "damn, I feel so protected taking Duke here"
Im providing this info, and it could be interpreted 2 ways......1) we can feel warm and cuddly that weve got duke -2 with the best and smartest players in the country, with the best coach, and luck, justice, and the AMERICAN way, and even Mr official is on our side........OR
Everything leading up to this has set bettors and people up for the unimaginable, the Final 4 has no Duke in it, the Zags finally break the ceiling, and make into it where everyone knows a talented 7 seed (msu) that cant hit FT but does everything else well, or an embattled Lville team that is finding a way to win.......Just like Kentucky/wisconsin, Duke/Zags is the harder game for either of these teams before facing MICH/LVILLe winner......
I think the Zags size and rebounding is whats gonna carry them thru to an all white-guy final vs wisconsin.....
Now I am not saying 10 times out of ten Id be picking Zags here.....Im not sure id pick zags in theiur own house to beat duke half the time......what i am saying here is in this particular spot, i would.......Duke has more talent, better guards, and more future nba impact players........Just like he helped out duke, dont be surprised to see, GOOD OL unathletic gray haired Mr official get involved here.......early fouls to Duke guards, okafor and best defender matt jones and Winslow will allow Zags to score at will and leave Duke punchless for extended periods of time.....I do not trust this game to be played legitiamtely and I can totally see after the season some news story about whether or not J Okafor turns pro or wants to return to College in 2016 to get atone for the poor showing they are about to have today.......
Every time i post unpopular opinions, I get the FUN POLICE telling me im a conspiracy theorist etc.,.......ive been right alot......im just saying, if im wrong, make fun of me, all u like, but watch the whistles and the early tone set on the loose ball rebounding fouls, and watch calls that might normally be "no-calls" and if the officials do a little extra......in fact, they may have to whistle the zags early, only to make crucial make up calls later against DUKE when it matters, but I suspect with zags FT ability they will be in bonus both halves and in ways that matter.
