Can't see him providing much help to them at this point in the season. Not an easy system to learn on the fly for anyone much less an undisciplined player like Floyd.

Jesus they always pick up good players like this that really really help. He must be pleased.

Wow a DUI in this day and age, sure you do not want that but to let him go? Did he do it before is he a repeat offender? I do not condone DUIs but...

Pats use the Aaron Hernandez test.... did you do something worse than him? No? Then welcome to Foxboro.

The list goes on. They truly believe that those players can work in their system. Usually they're right. Belichek just had a love for Chad. The only big name that really flopped.

Haynesworth, Chad Brown, Joey Galloway and Adalius Thomas come to mind as big misses. All pretty big names.

Floyd has been a big disappointment for AZ since being drafted.

3000 yards in 4 years? Been bigger disappointments. Great pick up.

No risk move for NE, but Floyd has honestly been terrible this year.

Floyd is a guy who played 139-of-146 snaps the last two weeks and turned it into 5 catches for 36 yards. You can blame some of that on Palmer looking like he's toast, but not all of it.

Still a smart move for the Pats, but I wouldn't expect much.

Wouldn't shock me if they picked him up to take a test spin over last month of season. If he is not a good fit he will be a free agent and can net them a compensatory pick in 2018 draft.

Guy had the same issues with alcohol and cars going back to his time at Notre Dame.

Think he got 1 or 2 in college but yea not end of the world. Bigger issue is he has hands of stone, seriously doubt cards cut him if he wasn't such a bum.

Floyed played for Charlie Weis at ND....he'll no the offense fairly quickly.
Fitzgerald loves the kid. I'm sure they got some input from Weiss also.

Yeah I don't really question Belichecks decisions. He's done things over the past that don't seem to make a lot of sense and more often than not it ends up working out. They are the masters of taking mediocre players and turning them into stars. It's a very low risk and potentially high reward situation. It's not like they signed him to a big contract. If he had any chance of turning his career around it probably would be on a team with a really good system and a really good quarterback. I think with all the injuries the pats have it's a solid pick up. They probably see a ton of potential or natural ability and want to see if they can turn it into something.

Cards had no reason not to cut him; they are out of the playoffs, his contract is up at the end of the season and if someone claimed him (which they did)) the team saves 1.4 m in real cash. I bet this was an ownership decision and a no-brainer. If the Cards were in the playoffs, I doubt they cut him loose.

I suppose the best argument for keeping him is if he signs with another team next year it could impact compensatory pick calculations in 2018, but that is probably worth less to the owner than 1.4 million bucks in cash. And, the Pat's will now get that compensation, assuming he signs elsewhere in free agency this off-season (probably not a huge factor, admittedly, since he won't break the bank with his baggage)

Sure you can add Ochocinco. But outside of Thomas, none of them were expensive. And you can also name many success stories: Talib, Blount, Harrison, Corey Dillon etc.. All of them had baggage with either discipline/PED/guns/ or general discontent/clubhouse chemistry issues etc...

In all 4 cases they revived said players career. Not saying Floyd will fall into the latter group, but given their 11-2 record it is worth 1.4 m to take a wager on it. Especially since the Pat's rank 31st in real cash payroll -- they can afford these risks because they rarely go crazy in free agency (when they do overpay a guy, it is a middling guy like Hogan, not a bank-roll killer like Maxwell or Suh).

Im certainly not saying it a bad move for them, it really a great move considering they will now also get a pick out of it. No risk with a payoff of a extra pick and no question he has talent I just have serious doubts playing for pats is gonna magically make him play any better and regardless of wiess connection this isn't a easy offense to pick up and nobody has ever accused this clown of being a hard worker. The fact he been so crappy in a contract year says a lot imo, granted his qb has sucked this season but dude has dropped a bunch of catchable passes and flat out disappeared for games at a time. Not knocking the move cause as everyone stating there no risk involved I just think unlikely they hit the jackpot here.
