Starting with Win98, you can put multiple video cards (even fairly cheap ones) into a computer. According to the documentation, Windows can handle up to 8 monitors.

I did this for a sportsbook for which I used do work. The frontdesk manager computers had two monitors each. This allows the managers to view lines on one screen and take plays with the other.

Notes:
1) Some cards act flaky with each other. I've even had to swap the order cards were in to get it to work.

2) Sometimes the built-in video of the mother board causes problems.

3) Extra memory helps. Also, don't run the screen at maximum color resolution. 256 colors is fine for reading lines. More colors=more memory=more time to draw screens=slower response.

4) I don't know if you can use 2 dual-video card and get 4 screens.

Despite the problems, very cool using two screens off one computer.

Matrox cards are affordable and do an excellent job. You can get a dual screen setup for $200 or so and if you want the nuts you can pop for the $800 quad display card.

If you have a PC with enough slots, you can use $50 video cards.

Boys you can get wireless monitors also for less than a dime and are very light weight and as long as you have windows xp pro it will work. The monitors are touch screen too or pen driven and they mimic your desktop. Here is a link

I go on the couch at night and have all the books and lines right in front of me with no wires and the screen weighs 3 lbs and one inch thick. Pretty handy tool.
