In the past I have been able to download torrents no problem thru my DSL connection. 4 days ago I was downloading no problem. The next day I havent been able to connect to any torrents. Is it possible ICE is blocking this now? Have you guys heard anything about this or have any advice on how to get it working again? Thanks...

I hear (from a customer) that she got her connection DISABLED after downloading angels and demons.......but its simply a rumor until its absolutely confirmed , it sounded to me more like the ICE tech was using that as an excuse for their ridiculous delay in fixing the problem on her end

the thing is that since ICE uses static IPs it makes it easier for them (in the event of a complaint) to find out who it was the offender and cut them off

your connection is absolutely fine except for that?

Yeah internet is working perfectly.. I go to say mininova or pirate bay and click on a torrent and it just keeps trying to connect. I have downloaded 1000's of songs and tons of movies and tv shows but then the other day it just started not connecting..Have no idea what the problem is unless ICE somehow put a block on torrents. Is that even possible for ICE to do that? Someone at my work also said ICE was disabling accounts for downloading.

my advice, move to AMNET, ICE blows ass.... those fuckers have kept me waiting for connecting my place for over 6 months now, is FUCKING unbelievable, there are ports available and everything they just dont have a clue of what they doing or they are all a bunch of LAZY fucks....

I have gone twice to their offices and they told me the same BOTH times, they will reissue the request and I will have connection in 2 weeks tops... the last time was 3 months ago

If they are blocking torrents FUCK EM.... wait for the competition to enter the market or change to a cable TV service

what torrent client do you use?

I use tomato torrent for mac....Has worked like a charm since january.Just stopped the other day.

I would switch to amnet unfortunately they do service my area. My house is block to far.. So ICE is my only choice at the moment.

try utorrent.com, they have a mac client

Blocking torrents is possible but I doubt ICE does what it takes to REALLY block them , with utorrent you can change the port that the application uses (if what they do is block a few ports you can change it to whatever)

I used to work for the Cable Company in Canada about 8 years ago. We would regularly disable people for downloading beyond a certain point. Of course we would re-enable them once they agreed to a larger unlimited package.

I'm a big fan of Premium Usenet services like Easynews.com or giganews.com

Fast speeds, lots of selection easy to search.

A coworker here just told me it was in the la nacion last week that ICE was indeed blocking downloads. So if I sign up with a premium usenet service will I be able to download again? Or will that be blocked also?

They probably wouldn't block the usenet port 119 but Easynews allows downloads from the web broswer Port 80. It takes a little longer but it's still fast in comparison.

Is ICE blocking people for using too much bandwidth, or blocking people only for accessing and/or sharing P2P? Rather big difference.

May be time to use a VPN if the latter.

for torrents related to 'hot' items (that perhaps generated the attention of the MPAA/RIAA)

I wouldn't know but I'd be surprised if they didn't have a limit...its a good way to capitalize on movie and music downloads

they tried to implement an 'pay per byte' policy at RACSA's datacenter downtown sometime around 2003

they sent the notice..then they changed their minds....it was not easy at all to have an accurate meter deployed in a massive scale

I know that apparently comcast in the US is having the same exact problem.......to deploy an accurate meter , deploying one on the users end is of course trivial but thats another thing

We never used a meter, but our Acceptable Use team were pretty solid.

So if you went over your limit my a few gigs no one cared but if the user was over by 10+ they would sell them on an unlimited package, about $10-15 more

Install utorrent, and under options->preferences->connection check the box saying to randomize port every startup.

Then goto options->preferences->Bittorrent and change protocol encryption to enabled with the allow legacy connections box checked.

Save these settings, then close and reopen uTorrent.

This should encrypt data between trackers and clients that also support encryption making them harder to detect and shape.
