I have seen handicappers and the media talking about how teams down 0-2 in an NBA playoff Series virtually never come back to WIN the SERIES...

What they almost always fail to mention is that the best of seven format used to be 2-3-2, and not 2-2-1-1-1...

Therefore, if a Team got up 2-0 and went on the Road, it was very hard for the team down two games to WIN 3 straight at Home.

With the NEW format, the lower seeded team now has a much higher chance of coming back from a 2-0 deficit...

If someone can provide stats from the two different formats, I'd love to see them...

All other opinions are welcome, too...

Does anyone besides me believe we will see at least one team that was down 0-2 come back to win it this round?

Thanks in advance,

THE SHRINK

Not that I will bet on all of them, but...

I think 3 dogs are possible, adding the Kings to your list Fishhead...

Good Point Shrink.

I don't think two teams will come back.
They are: The Lakers and the Kings.

I'm not sure where you are coming up with your info Shrink but the 2-2-1-1-1 format has been used by the NBA for at least the last 20 years.

The 2-3-2 format has only been used in the Finals series over the same period of time.

Kapper,

While you make an excellent point, the stats I am seeing still count the results from over 20 years ago and we all know that The NBA Playoffs have been around a lot longer than that!

P.S.

The NBA FINALS are ONLY one round...

Does anyone have stats reflecting both formats?

KAPPER is right shrink, 2-3-2 got instituted by NBA for media so they would not have to travel as much. Also, the Finals were 2-2-1-1-1. How about you misleading us on the misleading stat? What are the home team in game #7 results? Or the results of home team winning game #5 after 2-2. Was that a pebble or is the sky falling? Best wishes...OF

All time...not broken down by format....

Visitor Up 2-0....20-2 in series
Home Up 2-0......139-5 in series

So all teams that have taken a 2-0 lead are a combined 159-7 in the series.

Hey Nielm, I keep seeing 173 series 7 winners, 166-7. They must have added this year's first round already. Also, do you have stats for home teams up 2-0, game #5 in 7 game series, All 4 series there. Game #5 winner going on to win the series, and game #7 at home. After up 2-0 or not. If you have the stats and the time. Thank You...OF

shrink is right on the $$ . . .this is exactly why I think the lakers can come back and take this series. I'm just not 100% sure they can win this game tonight and have the same type of get up they had at home still waiting for info to pour in. but we saw the lakers are capable on the road when they won that real tough game in portand to end the season.

and also what was the % of series winners after it became 2-2? after 2-0 it rarely becomes 2-2

Sorry Rob, can't back a less than 4% result. Lakers great at home, sorry on the road. Rockets handed them game #4 in OT. Spurs win tonight, just like last year, then Wrap it up in #6, just like last year, or back home for #7. What are the numbers for game #7 home teams? Thanks ...OF

spurs won game 5 by 2 last year . . .this is a much better lakers team than last year. don't underestimate the huge talent discrepancy, the lakers owned the Spurs in the RS they'll own them here also. stats are only one element of capping. and also the format changed that is the whole point of what shrink is saying. LA will more than likely win the game tonight. you'll seeeeeeeee

Rob, shrink was wrong. The format has always been 2-2-1-1-1. It also used to be that way in the finals. His point is that the 2-3-2 screws the sampling. It does not. 2-3-2 only in finals and might add a few results only. Regular season Spurs won the money game April 4th. Do not agree on talent disparity. Last time I checked, Spurs won 18 straight or something at home. Beat the more talented Lakers by 10 twice. Huge gap in home courts here. Cannot compare Portland out of playoff, regular season game, that took miracle by Kobe in OT. This is Spurs, game #5. You are being misled by this thread. Best wishes...OF

How about the Miami Heat? If they can steal a game Saturday against an Indiana team that might be coming unglued, I will guarantee you Miami would nail the coffin at home in game 6.

Shrink, I just don't understand you on this one.

I personally hate it when the announcers talk about how the 2-3-2 vs. 2-2-1-1-1 format favors one team or another.

IMO, it is nonsense. The MLines are the same based on the home team. The order really matter very little, if at all.

Book it...

all three teams that were up 2-0 will win their respective series.

Pacers, Spurs and Pistons.
