Because this is barely a gambling forum anymore

middle aged mutt foxhound has had skin issues since August. Scratches and licks uncontrollably to the point of damaging himself. Vet said seasonal allergies...since then I've went to a fish based diet, fish oil pill, pro biotics, have been to vet twice, 3 different scripts which work for a few weeks then he reverts when you wean him off..vet said can't keep on the pills permanently..vet said originally seasonal environmental allergies..obviously season is much different in western pa in August vs December. Nothing seems to be working..not 100% sure vet knows wtf he is talking about. Going to the vet also totally sucks. Anyone have experience? Advice?

I have tried aveno baths and epsom salts. I think that is just temporary relief. I mixed some apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray my boys down with that before I rinse thIem off. Many good suggestions on google and I wish you luck ! I have been feeding my boys kibble (blue buffalo) with white rice and a spoon full of tuna. Their coats are really soft right now! I dont give em tuna every day and give them chicken as well.

Has your vet talked to you about getting an allergy test done? I'm sure it's expensive but might be something to consider. Maybe talk to him about a hypoallergenic food. Problem is you don't really know what the dogs is allergic to and it could take a while if you are the one trying to figure it out.

Oatmeal bath

heck with a vet for skin issues unless a pet has demodex (yours doesn't).

try some athletes foot or jock itch medicine, it could be a fungal infection. selson blue shampoo might help too.

some of that medicine works better than others, just like antibotics work your way up and do full treatment

good luck

Great the allergy test done and then go on allergy shots. I have done it with a couple of my American bullies

On of my dogs was actually allergic to grass! The shots took care of them. You start off with shots all the time and eventually ween down to one every few months.

Ok soooo... the easy fix... is put a spoonful of coconut oil into his food. SEVERAL, of my clients did this, all of them said it worked...

If that doesn't work.. you have a slightly more complicated fix... go to the LOCAL, health food store in your neighborhood, it must be a local one... then buy a bottle of the local honey. Again put a spoonful of that honey in your dog's food. Bees produce an element in their honey derived from all local pollens.. ingesting it internally will build up after 3 weeks u will see a lessoning..

Sadly, many Vets push steroids, and this has shaved Easily 4 years off their dogs life...

Good luck..

OP stated he was already doing the fish oil, but I agree, it does help, however I wouldn't waste extra money on one bottled and labeled specifically for dogs.
