Probably been posted before, but seems like it could be interesting subject.

I don't think mine has a clue. Although I left the laptop open to covers one time and she thought that was my sportsbook, lol.

Once when we were out with friends drinking, I slipped up and mentioned how much I had on a bowl game.

I was shocked she didn't flip out, probably only because I won that game.

Currently single but my ex knew about it... she just didn't know the extent of it. I would say I am betting $20 a game to keep my interest. When really it is $100 or so.

My wife knows (not happy but she knows well), though she has absolutely no idea how much I have lost over the past several years (nor will she ever find out, unless one of my knucklehead friends shoots his mouth off while drunk).

knuckledheaded friends that shoot their mouths off while drunk. if i were you artie, i'd start playing the politics game. break it to her gently and undermine the credentials of your buddies. that way you'll have an out when one of them slips. JMHO.

There is no way I can tell her. I bitch at her for spending $19.99 on some bullsh!t book, so if she knew my losses have been exponentially greater than that....I don't know what she would do, but it wouldn't be good. I guess that's what I get for being a hypocrite.

If I have to throw my friend(s) under the bus w/me if they babble, then they are coming down w/me....misery loves company.

Yep. She knows. Knows its an expensive hobby of mine, but she knew before we got married. So she can't say too much.

She sure has nothing to say when the money clears in the bank account.

What's up with that, my shittyNHLteam brother?

Try this instead

Ask her to make a list of the next 20 books she wants to read and then get your butt onto Amazon and buy them all for 50-80% off cover by getting good condition used copies.

She'll have a fresh package arriving every couple days for several weeks and she will think you're The Man instead of The Nag.

When I finally make it back up to the Island and meet da Mrs, I promise not to mention the $30 check you mailed me last summer on that Yankee/Rays series.

Of course she does. There is only so many times a remote control can be shattered in 20 pieces without giving an explanation....J/K I made it clear to her years ago when we first started dating what the deal was with my sports betting.

Yes, like boxer said, cellphones broken against the floor, holes in the wall, broken remote controls, pacing around the house screaming at the TV, all this over the years she found out pretty quick.

I had a huge portion of my bankroll on the Chicago Cubs at the Marlins about a week or 2 ago. Zambrano started against some scrub from the Marlins. The Cubs took a 6-0 lead in 2 innings when Zambrano hurts his back taking a homerun cut while batting. They bring in Jeff S. from the bullpen who is one of the worst pitchers I've ever seen in my life. In about 3 or 4 innings the game is 6-5 Cubs. They finally take Jeff out and the bleeding stops. In the top of the 9th the Cubs finally get some support runs with 2 outs Theriot hit a 2 run double to make it 8-5.

In the bottom of the 9th, the Cubs get 2 quick outs and there is nobody on base. For some reason I still have a really bad feeling. My wife is like "its over, the game is over, there is 2 outs and no way the Marlins can come back". She is not understanding why I am refusing to speak. Next batter, homerun, 8-6. Next 2 batter get singles. Then for whatever retarted reason, the outfield decides to play shallow with the tying run on first base. Hanley Ramirez had been taken out of the game and the guy that came up Beneficiado I think, who has no power, hits a line drive that goes over the center fielders head and against the wall. I'm now looking at a 8-8 game with the losing run on third, Cody Ross up. He grounds out to third. Extra innings. Next inning, first batter up was Derrick Lee and he quickly calms my ever brewing anger with a homerun deep to left center. Cubs won 9-8, but wow it was close. It would have been a broken TV game.

My wife couldn't believe how I had called the 2 out 3 run comeback by refusing to talk and feeling like I was going to lose the game even at that point. I just had a terrible feeling. And it came true. I was lucky to win. Dam Zambrano if he wouldn't have gotten hurt I would have won that one easily.

My ex loved it when the winners kept pouring in...

She didn't take too kind to the losing so she gave me the boot 24 years ago...I will be forever thankful to her....

Yes, she was suspicious for years (screaming at TV over a meaningless WAC game), finally came clean. Felt good getting it off of my chest. Don't know if it is karma or not, but have had much greater success since coming clean.

She knows, but if I talk about it to a friend in front of her she will just shake her head and walk away. I don't think she want to know the details.
