There is no Wyoming. I drove west of SD going to Portland, OR and it's all just a holodeck type thing, kind of like a movie studio set. They put up a bunch of huge pictures in the background of mountains and things to make you think there are Grand Tetons.

I've been to Jackson Hole and Yellowstone but that's really just a part of East Utah. They draw the state lines funny in that part of the country.

Wyoming is just a big government conspiracy.

Not bashing the east coast gang.

I think you have kids right Sherman? Anyway, take a trip out to Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Glacier National parks (all somewhat close in proximity to eachother) and it will blow your mind(s).

During my sophomore year at Clemson (in SC), there was a guy down the hall from me that claimed to be from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The last place I would have expected to meet someone from Wyoming was in Clemson.

Or come out to Denver in January & find out that it's often 55 degrees & sunny (feels like 70) during the winter (Shhhh-TOP secret). Then take the family skiing in Vail for a few days.

If you like extreme cold you will like Jackson Hole...

Staying Warm In Jackson Hole
Jackson Hole is cold. This much you knew. But do you know how to go outside on the coldest of Jackson Hole mornings and remain warm throughout the day?
Here's ten quick tips that will help:

Your head. Keep it covered. Completely. More heat is lost through the top of your head than anywhere else on your body. Remember that.

Your ears. Buy a hat that comes down all the way over them. And use it.
Your neck and face. While scarves are cumbersome and impractical, they will do the job in a pinch. A better suggestion, however, is a neck gaiter made out of "Turtle Fur" or similar material. Don't leave home without it.

Your hands. It's almost always a good idea to buy your gloves or mittens a little bigger than you think you'll need. Remember, it's not just the material that keeps you warm, it's the dead air space in between that material and the surface of your skin. As for the choice between gloves or mittens, that decision is up to you and should be based on practical needs, not fashion concerns. Some manufacturers are now making mitten/gloves with one slit right down the middle, leaving two fingers on one side and two on the other. These might be worth checking out.

Your lower back. This may seem like an odd area of the body to worry about getting cold, but anyone who's ever sat on a chairlift with a 40 mph wind gusting up the back of the shirt knows what I'm talking about. Several manufacturers now make their ski bibs with a high, elastic back. Get a pair of those if you can.

Your feet. Again, be thinking about air space. Whatever you do, don't try to cram a foot wrapped in three layers of socks into a tight ski boot. The multiple sock theory may make the boots feel tighter but it will also prevent blood from flowing to your toes. When it comes to socks, go thin to win. Also, when wearing pac-boots like Sorels, try to have your feet as high off the ground and as far away from the surface of the snow as possible. Buy some good wool inserts and stick them in between the liner and the shell - underneath your foot.

Cotton. Avoid it. And if you're planning on doing any extensive hiking to earn your turns, don't forget the extra dry shirt to put on after you're finished climbing. There's nothing worse than a long, slow, cold descent wearing a damp top.

A tip on goggles. The best way to keep them from fogging up is to never fall wearing them. If they do get snow on them, and just will not stay clear, you're better off bringing them inside and drying them out completely before you head back out.

Layer, Layer, Layer. It's the best advice you can get. Forget the stretch pants, forget the neon tights, just stick to simple long underwear and practical, comfortable, keep-you-dry outerwear. Shy away from the big, poofy, do-it-all jackets and pants unless you're planning an expedition of Iditarod-esque proportions. Instead, go with a warm layer of fleece and a shell.

The best way to prevent yourself from being cold is to never get cold to begin with. Stay active, stay dry, stay moving and do whatever you have to keep the blood flowing.

Don't need to "rough" it. Very nice accommodations in and around the national parks.

Sneak away and fire one up at 12,000 feet and you'll almost touch the stars, that will excite you. A buffalo walking past your car will excite you. Seeing animals (moose, bear, etc.) that aren't behind bars will excite you.

Your kids will dig it.

I was there from 1993-1998. In the 1994-1995 year I stayed in Lever Hall, over on the then "girls" side of campus where some of the sorority halls, etc. were. 1995-1996 I stayed at Clemson House. If we both met the same guy from Jackson Hole, then we most likely ran into each other...

Oh man.....you "city people" kill me.

Here's a true story for ya Sherman-you'll like this one.

Late spring, early summer this year. A few of us were camping at about 8500 ft in the Rockies. We don't do tents unless it's a winter trip (then they are a MUST have). We had two coolers in the back of my truck-one full of food, one full of beer. Well, sometime around 4-5am, a medium sized brown bear decided that he wanted to get to the food cooler & tried to crawl over the beer cooler-which crashed out of the back of the truck onto the ground.

Few things can snap someone out of a drunken passed out coma-THAT SOUND is one of them!!!

Anderson....another hotbed of action. Believe it or not on my recent visit to Clemson this spring, Anderson was actually starting to grow a bit. I was surprised. Who needs Anderson when you have Tiger Town Tavern, TD's the Esso Club and all the Southern Belles you could ever want?

Other than the apartments on the one side of campus, I can't think of any other dorm that could have fit an extra person comfortably. I hope you weren't staying in a place with metal walls. If so, that would have been a TIGHT fit.
