I checked and yes, the rx is indeed #1 on google when you enter offshore sportsbooks. Do companies pay to get #1, or do they do it with search engine submissions? I would like to know because if I ever start an internet business it would be nice to be atop the search engines like the RX is. Thanks for any info.

Google is a private company (for now) and doesn't reveal too much information about their search results. The guys who founded Google usually just say something like "It is a complex algorithim that involves many factors."

no matter how good google search is (was) it's fvcking pathetic for something close to 90+% of the web users on earth to rely on a single search engine.

It is kind of funny that everyone uses that one now. I don't really understand it myself. I used to use Yahoo and somehow i got google brainwashed into my brain. There must be something subliminal going on there. It just doesn't make sense.

i love the down to basics interface and its efficiency, i am just wondering how on earth no ones come up with anything competitive, or at least similar, how hard can this be.

Also, i thik it's high time they channeled that brainpower going into creating video games with artificial intelligence characters into a web search for the new millenium.

Google is popular because it works. But when searching for a review of product that can be sold, good luck. There is so much affiliate trash sites it is amazing.

That would be sweet. Another thing that I find irksome is the fact that when you search on these big search engines you really seem to get biased results. In other words, say you punch in "photos of Charlize Theron", all you get is a bunch of bullshit sites that flood your computer with spyware or sites that request that you pay for the pictures. I am sure that this is a scam with these sites colluding with Google. There has got to be someone out there who can produce a better search engine. Everyone things google is so great, well i am not one of them.

i think it is in relation to the number of time a link is clicked on.

That's so true, a couple of years ago when google was still competing with the rest you could get unbiased results, and find say some computer geek charlize crazed fan's website who has uploaded and scaned pretty much everything charlize, nowadays it's not only that you get the junk on the first search results page, it's that you can't even find anything but junk even if you go to page 100 or something, it's more than obvious these guys are getting filthy rich out of selling results, what's not at all obvious, or actually a complete mystery to me, is how competition works everywhere else in internet applications right now except in search engines.

PageRank is very important.

Also 146,000 matches is not that big of a search term.

Sports Forum

7.5 MILLION results

And you wont find the Rx anywhere

//nowadays it's not only that you get the junk on the first search results page//

It's only because some have figured out how Google reads information.

an interesting idea i ve been toying with, but i ve not seen it being implemented anywhere, is if you could get a website to suggest similar key words to the ones you type, based on what others have typed.

for example, how many times have you searched for a "how to guide", there are plenty of web sites out there that would possibly descibe this how to you are looking for without mentioning the exact "how to" phrase, but others with about the same meaning such as say "learn" or "step by step guide" or "tutorial" etc. etc.

another example that i had hoped search engines would start using is word proximity. you want to find certain key words within the same sentence say, it's no use listing all the sites with say jack and jill, if these two word are not in the same sentence as "jack blah to/for/with/as jill".

also, syntax is yet to come into play with search engines.

i disagree, it's due to that too, but "not only because", as much as some have figured out how google work, so has google figured out they have it figured out and forced their favoured results in first.

i also dislike the censorship implications that a centralized search engine implies, i mean everywhere else the net is the epitome of decentralization...
