Does music suck because people steal songs, or does it suck simply because it suck?

Heard a big time music industry guy the other day talking about the reason music is so crappy now is because the music industry does not have the money or incentive to invest in finding a good product.

I think this is a cop out and an excuse from the music industry for putting out a crap product.

I mean how much money does it take to give a new rock band with 4 members a shot at the bigtime?

10 years ago I just blamed it on it being a dry run of good music, but its been so bad so long that it no longer can be called a dry run.

Will it ever turn around?

The only thing worth listening to since 1995 is country music. And sad enough there are several signs of country music getting ruined by the same crap you hear on the top 40 stations.

I dont know why the music industry caters to the lowest income bracket in the United States.

The only people who likes this crap are kids from the age of 7 to 16.

If you are above this age and still enjoy this crap I feel so sorry for you.

I just checked out the LATEST top 100 most rock songs downloaded on ITUNES.
Over 85% of the most downloaded LATEST rock songs are over 20 years old.

Its almost completely dead.

It doesn't suck but as you get older you just don't care. The reason that the most purchased songs on itunes are over 20 years old is because younger people just steal and don't buy and you got the older people actually paying for it.

It sucks because the people who buy most of it are 7-16. It is safer for record companies to take a known commodity from the Disney channel, spend 50k on songwriting, studio musicians, studio time, mixing, etc, and do a mall tour and make 500k profit then find a band that has a decent following and take a chance.

No, I am just talking about the rock category.

If you take the overall most downloaded songs its JayZ, Beyonce, and anyone on American Idol.

It's always been about money. I remember hearing stories about how in the fall of 1991 when the Seattle Sound just hit, record execs were flying to Seattle to sign any band they could find, going to music instrument stores and looking for anyone in an unsigned band. They really wanted to cash in on Nirvana, AiC, Soundgarden, PJ, etc.
