Dodgers get Thome from White Sox, Garland from D'Backs
Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired veteran slugger Jim Thome from the Chicago White Sox in a waiver trade deadline deal.
The White Sox received infielder Justin Fuller in the deal, while the Dodgers also got cash considerations.
Thome was a designated hitter for Chicago this season, hitting .249 with 23 homers and 74 runs batted in. He played in the National League once before, when he was with the Phillies from 2003-05 and played first base.
The Dodgers also acquired pitcher Jon Garland from the Diamondbacks, who on Monday opened a four-game series at Dodger Stadium. Arizona received a player to be named later.
Garland went 8-11 with a 4.29 earned run average in 27 starts for the Diamondbacks this season.
