How big of an idiot do you have to be to criticize a player like Durant for joining Golden State because you think it ruins the "competitiveness" of the league, when you were actually part of a team who started all of this with forming the original Big 3 in Boston thru free agency & trades?

Doc you sure had a different opinion when Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen won you that ring...

Doc Rivers this past Tuesday:

"It is tough when you see a guy join a team — in Durant's case what he did this year. That was tough for anybody, anybody's that's competitive, to watch. He lost, and then he joined. Having said that, it was his choice, I have no problem with him, but it's something from a competitive standpoint, you would think you wouldn't do.

"I have no problem with him doing it, it's just something from a competitive point, for me, I guess when I played it would have been tough for me to join Detroit. Having said that, he has the ability to do it, guys are doing it, and there's nothing you can do about it."

The C's traded two starters and a # 1 pick to the Sonics and 5 players and two number one picks to the T Wolves

They essentially traded their whole rotation except Pierce and Rondo plus 3 number one picks to get those two players

The big difference is the C's gave up stuff, some big stuff. They were not unrestricted free agent signings

That's what differentiates what Ainge did and what the Heat did a few years ago and what Durant did last year.

And a few years later, Ainge went in the opposite direction and he looks like he's positioned the C's pretty darn good again

As for Doc, he was hoping to be the coach of the most talented team out West and that just didn't pan out

I'm not a fan of Durant on the Warriors. It's just bad for the game to have a top 3-4 player in the league go to a top team like that. And there really isn't any historical precedent for it. Stuff like the Heat or Celtics or Lakers they assembled elite teams, but it isn't anything like GS was able to do. Definitely hurts competitive balance. If he went to Boston/Washington/San Antonio or even re-signed then it would be a lot better from an entertainment statement.

However....

It's not his job to legislate competitive balance or worry about how good certain teams are or how entertaining it is for people like myself. It's a free country and he can go where he wants. And if the NBA wants to change the collective bargaining agreement then there are easy ways to create more parity. But that would likely be bad for business overall, so it won't happen.

How can anyone blame Durant or the Warriors. Most great teams don't have the cap space to sign an elite player. It was a unique situation where the Warriors did have the space the same year Durant was a free agent.

Warriors- what team wouldn't want Durant on their team.

Durant- Is the guy supposed to play his whole career in Oklahoma City. Who would you rather player with, Curry, Green. and a Warriors team that plays great team ball. Or a flashy ball dominating guard like Westbrook.

Are you nuts? Durant to warriors nothing like the Celtics getting kg and allen. Different on many many levels.

Yes but that's not the point.

If you form a super-squad, it doesnt matter how youve gone about it.

The point here is that Doc Rivers has no place dissing Durant & the Warriors when he was involved in the exact same thing & benefited from it. (No matter how it happened)

And don't get me wrong, i still loved the Celtics when that happened.

But Doc Rivers is described below...

the pot calling the kettle black

a situation in which one person criticizes another for a fault the first person also has

Definitely a unique situation. Seems like it was the easy way out, but most people would have probably done the same thing. The NBA has always been ruled by a few franchises, but now these "superteams" will probably be more common now. Which sucks for the fans.

youre so quick to defend your precious c's or patriots, it's pathetic. They traded crazy ass delonte west, washed up Wally Szcerbiak and the 5th pick(Jeff green) they got ray Allen and big baby Davis, along with the 35th pick.

Doc had the best team for ~7 seasons and won 1 title. Phil would've won at least 6 with that much talent.

doc is literally the worst coach in nba. got lucky with some incredible talent once. He's a moron tactically. His Clippers are biggest consistent chokers in nba history. Guy would have been fired if he wasn't a "likeable" black guy
