I hit a large 3 team parlay yesterday...I bought the max three points on each play for insurance. All 3 games covered without needing those points. I cost myself a lot of extra payout by buying those points, but the peace of mind that comes with them was nice for a play this large.

i guess if one of the teams needed those points and it saved my parlay i wouldnt be writing this...i have one friend who never buys points, doesnt believe in it, says that the score is usually never close enough to justify paying for the points...that same friend lost 3 games last week all by one point each.

i guess my question for you is, what is your thought on what i did? do you guys buy points on your parlays?

i won, so it doesnt matter, but of course i am sitting here thinking, "damn, it couldve been so much more." LOL

safe to say, any of you that read my thread last week about setting a bar of when to walk away when you are UP, I have hit mine, and will be just enjoying this sunday on the sidelines :)

hope everyone is having a good weekend- Bavaro

And for the record, I am not complaining in any way, am very happy that I won, just want all of your take on how you play your big parlays...

everything seems so easy when you win and are looking back at it... especially when you have fought back from some bad beats as I have!

again, BOL today fellas.

bavaro, I play my parlays like that....unfortunately yesterday I got fucked out of a win by the Texas/OK game, I had OK+4 and they lose by 5...yeah it diminishes payout but peace of mind is a little better when making a parlay bet

With all due respect, I feel like buying points in any sport is stupid, and 10x more stupid in baseketball.
I will on occassion, buy a half point in football at the key numbers of 3 and 7.....but I'm pretty sure that's a bad idea too.
The number of times it actually ends up helping does not equal what you have to pay for it. It's just math.
If it did help an equal amount to what you have to pay for it.....they wouldn't let you do it.

Just my 2 cents, glad you won though.

buying points in basketball is not a good idea monetarily...but peace of mind is hard to quantify. track it for yourself. everytime you wager, track how much more you would have won vs. the amount of money you made when the extra points came into play

There's no need.....they don't add up. They just don't.
Maybe in the short run of a week or a month, or even maybe a little longer, but in the end they don't add up.

Teasers, buying points, they let you do it for a reason.

I could see buying points in the nba at this time of year because the lines are getting really tight. I wouldn't do it in college. My 2 cents worth.

I like taking ML favorites with maybe one point spread game in my parlays, usually 4 teamer. 3 Money Line plays and 1 point spread pick.

the reason for the exercise is so that he can see it for himself. some people need to see something tangible in order for it to sink in. there is no imo about whether you should do it or not

Uh, yeah there is an IMO. I just gave it....and it was that it's not a good idea.
And hello, did you read the title of the post? It was...."Do you think I did the right thing?" He is asking for exactly that.....opinions.

It is not true that you need to see everything for yourself. You can take data that's been collected, and use it to make an informed decision. The math simply does not add up (it does not add up even in the situations where it's close to worth it, (ie) in the NFL with the numbers 3 and 7)

Data: Walking into oncoming traffic isn't a good idea.
Informed Decision: Don't walk into oncoming traffic.

Fellas, really appreciate your insights... that is what i love most about this forum, is that it allows you to learn so much from other people and what has worked for them as well as not worked... i appreciate it. always looking for new info to improve my decision making- who wouldnt? rather than act like a loser and tout picks or make claims of big balling (notice i never talk amounts) i really am humble enough to actually learn shit in here! that is after i get through the majority of douches that do exist and post...none are on this thread though, thats for sure...thx for the feedback - cheers.
