Turning my response in another thread into a polling question.

Considering

1) we already have massive deficits
2) the deficits are projected to increase
3) he wants to expand government by 800 billion to 1 trillion dollars
4) he's never ever espoused broad based tax cuts in his lifetime
5) he has espoused socialistic policies
6) he has already stated that he may not cut taxes if there is an economic downturn.
7) he is an earmark whore

why on God's good earth would you believe he's going to cut taxes? That's simply not reality, it's not in his record, it's not part of his political value system, it's not part of Democratic policy since JFK, and the Democratic party is not the party of JFK today. Obama is a big government liberal in every sense of the word, and such politicians do not cut taxes.

He's flat out lying to get elected. Nothing more, nothing less. I've seen that act far too often to fall for it again. The good thing for Obama is that most Americans hear his promise, but don't think about his promise.

With only 2 extremes as choices, I picked the closer one, but I think he'll do something that's about 2/3 of what he promised.

He did the calculation and figured he can get a big spike in revenue from the top 5%. Only thing he forgot was the ability of the top 5% to creatively get around the tax. He incorrectly assumes that the reported incomes will remain roughly the same. He'll be in for a big shock when they all start reporting lower income amounts. Most of them are paying whatever their conscience feels is right as the majority of their wealth is hidden. They will just hide some more and keep their tax burden more or less the same.

I'd call Obama naive and maybe even stupid, but not a flat out liar.

I think he gets somewhere in between. He'll be wise to seriously consider lowering, not raising capital gains taxes.

I still say the top bracket should go back to pre-Dumbya.

We gotz lotz of shitz to pay fer Wooly.

DP, I intentionally left the two extreme options. He's promising one extreme, I'm predicting the other extreme.

OK Willie, but ya gotta admit it's hard to participate in a poll where your true sentiment is not among the choices.

I understand, and I've not participated in some polls for that reason. However, I don't want people rewriting his policies to their liking.

If you're inclined to believe him, yes should be your answer. If not, then no should be your answer.

Read the fine print "except during an economic downturn", well what does he really think the next 4 years are going to be like when the world's markets are shitting the bed, energy costs have tripled, trillions of American dollars are evaporing like ice cubes on a Tucson sidewalk and the economic wounds aren't even actually being closed yet. We have IOU's out the wazooo and Obama says spend, spend, spend and we'll get out of this? That's how we got INTO this.

Where on earth does he honestly think he's going to get the money to spend?? It's not happening, but let's face it it won't be the first campaign promise a candidate hyped when they knew they had no chance to deliver. Just ask Hillary and are huge bag of empty promises she gave New Yorkers (and blamed on Republicans).

95% of working american families will get a tax cut under obama.

what you fail to recognize is that he is realistic about needing an increase gov't revenue while mccain is not. mccain says TAX CUTS FOR EVERYONE and he is not gonna slow down spending.

what is the single largest source of spending the last 8 years? he will make it even worse even while we tank her domestically.

obama will raise taxes in certain areas and cut them in others.

Even though I've resigned from the polling police force, I'd like to point out that an OP such as this one implies a lack of appreciation of the fact that all politicians have misrepresented the truth (lied) to get elected in every single instance in the history of mankind. It's a fact of life. Pointing it out is an exercise in redundancy. Start comparing the magnitudes of the lies of the two candidates and you're starting to get into reasonable territory.

Reagan, Bush 41, and Clinton all raised taxes, and the economy benefited. Bush 43 kept his promise to cut taxes, and look where we are.

Obama is a politician, but he's not a a fool. And neither is McCain.

Note that saying someone is not a flat out liar is different from saying he never lies.

A flat out liar says something he knows to be completely false with the sole objective of deceiving people.

You could believe something to be mostly true but deliberately exaggerate a bit for effect and you'd be lying and be a bit of a liar, but not a flat out liar.

i believe obama's intentions are to raise some taxes while lowering others. i believe he will raise MORE than he will cut but that he will provide the middle and lower class with tax cuts.

i don't know what mccain's intentions are because what he proposes is simply not possible. cut everyone's taxes he says... meanwhile we are going to be in pakistan, iran, iraq and afghanistan and we are going to buy up 300B worth of bad mortgages.

I think he knows his tax cut promises are completely false.

The problem is 45 percent of americans dont pay taxes. So he is really only creating tax cuts for 50 percent of the people. Number 2 the bailout has tied both of their hands. I actually think he is a smart man but I DONT LIKE HIS POLICIES.

That is IMPOSSIBLE, given the current deficit and his spending promises. It is an unreconcilable contradiction, unless he plans to raise the top tax bracket upwards of 80% - and probably even then. Meanwhile, he and Biden are going around saying that the top tax rates will be lower than they were under Reagan.

I'd love to be able to bet big bucks that he would pass a polygraph on that statement. Doesn't mean he'll actually do it, though. He could really believe it now via naivety or stupidity, only to find later that it's impractical.
