No its not.But the term was hijacked by the left. The left in America are the most uninclusive faction there is.They call the redistribution of wealth "progressive".
If you disagree with them you are a stupid racist.
Read Maureen Dowds last 2 columns.
Listen to Bill Maher
Being European is not progressive it is being socialist.
The word conservative refers to conserving the constitution and its meaning. Not going by some whimsical global baloney agenda that changes faster than Eastern European borders.
Liberalism is fine within the paremeters of the constitution.
The biggest difference between Liberalism and Conservatism (and let's be real clear that NEITHER of these two ideologies had any chance of making it into the White House for this term) is the latter favours collectivism while the former favours individualism. The term 'progressive' is a better way to describe today's propagandised version of liberalism, which is not at all what the US was based on.
Kristol the Elder wrote an essay on Liberal Democracy (I forget now what it's called) in which he blamed this ideology for the fall of the Weimer Republic in Germany and the subsequent rise of the National Socialist Party. Liberal Democracy, for all intents and purposes, is the promotion of the idea of 'one man, one vote' and 'of the people, for the people.' People who don't like it, including some neoconservatives, are bothered by the 'liberal' version, though democracy itself is not problematic. To get people on board with this, the term liberal must be propagandised to reflect a set of values that are easily resisted by the masses. So, after careful campaigning (over at least a decade or more) the next thing you know, the word liberal means 'socialist' in the American public mindset.
The fact that the Dems let this happen is rather sad.
(The Libertarians are the closest thing you have to Liberal in the US.)
