I'm sure the majority had parents, brothers, or someone along the line who followed sports in which helped lead the way for them to pick up interest in.

But in my case, none of my immediate family members followed sports & I gained interest on my own.

Just curious if there are any other cases like mine....

My cousin is 5 years older than me & he lived next door to us & when I would go over to his house on Sundays, he was always watching football, he was & still is a die hard Cowboys fan so I grew up cheering for them. My dad & mom never got into watching sports.

When i was really young at my grandmothers every Sunday, they would have a game on tv but nobody watching it. I can remember my aunts saying the NFL was fake...Nobody had any interest in sports. Eventually i found the sunday baseball stats page and started following the players on the tv. Within a few years i could quote any stat on any player in any sport...we had a lot of local guys in the pros back then also so getting into following sports wasnt that hard...

I'm like you. I was the first person in my family to follow sports seriously. I remember my Dad watching the Twins in the World Series. I believe it was the first time I ever saw him watch a sporting event. I was hooked after that.

I even followed the batting averages in the paper.

Strictly on my own. I played baseball, basketball, football, track, cross country, bowling and golf. Was introduced to gambling in my teens and it was a natural progression to sports wagering from there.

I think I got my gambling instinct from my mother.
She was convinced Ed McMahon was going to show
up at the door with her publishing clearing house check.
I don't know how many stupid magazines showed up at
the house every dam month.

It was all around me. As far back as I remember, my dad would always have the newspaper open to the stats section of the spotspage. All of his picks circled, sides or totals. My brother and I were never allowed to use the phone between 4:00 - 4:30 pm everyday cause his local was calling with the numbers.

My favorite older cousins were football junkies and they played through college. Therefore my brother and I followed as well. I think thats were I got my yelling at the TV from.

Watched all sports with my dad when I was young. Remember making bets on NBA games in junior high for a buck.
