Detroit vs Baltimore on 09/21 by Jay_Robinson

The shine may be off the Orioles now that they’re chances of making the playoffs have fallen to 0.5% (as per ESPN), but this is still a much better team that we’re used to. And while Detroit may have the pitching edge in this matchup, Jordan Lyles (4.53 xFIP) has been saddled by a .323 BABIP against, so maybe some positive regression is coming his way.

Matt Manning is Lyles’s opposite number this Wednesday. Manning’s 3.28 ERA is nice, but his 4.20 xFIP may be a truer indication of his talent level; the Tigers are 5-6 in his 11 starts for a thin 0.54 units in earnings, and Manning was stuck with a no-decision in seven of those appearances.
