detroit just released josh smith with 2 years and $26MM left on contract. plus rest of this year.

smith i think wanted to be a SF but his skills are as a PF (which is not a glamour position). trying to be something he's not.

this reminds me of last year when the raptors traded rudy Gayyee (sp) to Sactown. people thought it would hurt the raptors but those who knew the raptors knew it would help. Gayyee hadn't shot 50% FG% once in a game the whole year for toronto and it was 18 games into season.

this detroit situation seems similar... josh smith has the second worst points per shot in the NBA. just removing him from detroit's lineup will help the team. i think detroit had too many guys looking to shoot.

smith's net +/- is really really horrible.... they've been outscored by 168 points when he's in the game. pistons outscored by 32 with munroe in the game.

i think almost everything looks perfect for the pistons to improve and go on an incredible ATS streak like the raptors are still on since the rudy gay trade.

only thing that worries me if putting my faith in brandon jennings :)

EZ $$$$$ so far..... addition by subtraction :)[/QUOTE]

Thanks for the great info. and insight. Good Luck today. I put a few $$ on them. Seems like someone is noticing the improvement in Detroit as the line moved 3 points.

another easy win tonight............................ don't get me wrong, these opportunities don't come around too often but when they do they are gold.

now i'm thinking of the fade houston angle. i know they've played at least one with josh. and have had 2 small ATS misses in a row... i have no doubt he'll infect that team but not sure the effect will be anything like the uptick in detroit.

the raptors are still on a tear since that trade more than a year ago (i think).. gonna sess out this angle

yup the rudy gayyee trade was december 8th so a year and 20 days ago....... raptors still on an ATS tear from that trade.. 20-12 ATS after tonight's likely ats win. and i would be surprised if they weren't #1 or #2 ATS last year after the trade.

detroit has 3 good players and one is a dominant big man. this could be a good tail team for a long time.

gonna look more into the fade houston angle. i like it but i can't recommend going crazy yet.

Congrats on a great win tonight. Thank You very much for the info on Detroit and now on Houston. I will have to keep an eye on Houston. I know they play tomorrow against Charlotte, but no line listed yet. Thanks Again. Much Appreciated.

i'm taking ownership of the rockets' cover the other night i.e. it's a LOSS for me.

i do still like the idea of tailing pistons and fading rockets although rockets underperforming should me much more gentle (they can always just cut josh's minutes... probably there was already too much politics in detroit for that. had to amputate)....

Another solid showing by Detroit. Was up by 30 with 5 minutes left, but gave some of that lead back finally winning by 16. Houston down by 29 with 5 minutes and change left. Milwaukee up on indy at the moment.

Thanks RiverCityBirdie. We are off and running in the New Year thanks to you. I wish you and your family all the best in 2015.

didn't see a final score but i think milwaukee was an ATS loss unfortunately....... but detroit easy money again... and houston pretty easy money (although the situation isn't as good)

detroit another big ATS win....... gotta be 5 ATS wins in a row by avg of 15 to 20 points.

i see houston had a big ATS cover last night vs. miami...

i think people should stay on the detroit angle forever............ houston i still like but not crazy about it.

detroit with another big ATS win tonight... and a SU win in san antonio to boot.

still undefeated ATS since the josh smith trade. i think tonight was the closest one (9 points).... have to admit i was totally feeling it tonight but i did it nonetheless

arguably raptors post "rudy gayeee" ATS streak may have just ended (or may be still on-going as their 2 horrible ATS losses were at end of west coast road trip and one against the dominant GSW).

i think raptors home game vs. charlotte on thursday will be telling... it's the kind of game a top team should win pretty handily (home game against much worse team... although i haven't checked charlotte's recent form)

22 point cover tonight............... i would think they've covered by average of 13-15 points since josh. and that's as mentioned winning every single ATS game.

Nice observations, River City. Do you think these new look Pistons can keep this up and make a decent playoff run? Their futures are still decent value. Thanks!

hell of a call OP

I liked Pistons at beginning of the year but they were all F'd up with Smith being such a big part of their offense and keeping Monroe on the bench

Getting Meeks back has been big too. They needed outside shooting in the worst way

i would have to look at records, but gotta figure #8 in east is pretty weak... so yes, i think they can make the playoffs.... and i don't see any reason not to keep playing this streak. the san antonio game (road?) was a big hurdle and they passed that with flying colors.... and as i've said the raptors are generally still on an ATS heater 13 months after Gayyee trade.
