I'm not a Yankee fan but I'm a baseball fan and anybody that leaves Derek Jeter off first year ballot for HOF should lose their right to vote.

No way he is one everyone's first ballot. Hasn't baseball been the one sport, where nobody has had 100% the first ballot.

The thing is he's a Class act and I believe all the Sports writers Like/Love him. It's possible, but not a "Lock"

Wow, 100% is a tall order.

Has anybody ever gotten that?

Remember, 5 years removed will wipe out most if not all of the emotion of his last year/all-star game.

I don't think any baseball player ever received 100% of the votes

which kind of tells you how dumb some writers with votes can be

many players have to be HOF players by any standard of measurement, yet somebody didn't vote for them

I can see some voters leaving Jeter off their Ballot in his 1st year, although I wouldn't. Some voters think 1st year is for the best of the best of the best. Jeter was great, but certainly not the best SS of all time. OTOH, Mariano was the greatest reliever of All Time, was loved by everybody, never a hint of any controversy. If anyone should become the 1st unanimous guy in the HOF, it should be Mariano.

What's the big deal about First-Ballot? Is that a Hall of Fame within the Hall of Fame which seems pretty crazy....

Since we are talking First-Ballot

I thought Barry Bonds was a First Ballot Hall of Famer.................I thought that before his head looked like a pumpkin...

And I believe Derek Jeter is as well.......If he isn't, then who is.......

The guy was statistically the worst defensive shortstop in baseball for many years in the early to mid 2000s. No way is he a first ballot hall of famer.

Yet he may be the only shortstop on earth who could have made that play in Oakland.....
He's a perfect example of why a good head will always out weigh perfect skills.

Yay! More made up stats like range factor. Lol I remember when they had Robbie Alomar with worst range amongst second baseman too.

Jeter may not have been the great dominate hitter, RBI producer, or prolific base stealer. But his greatness is consistency and stepping up in big games. Things that are often overlooked when looking at just the numbers.

3400 hits and a level of class the world needs, makes him a first ballot guy in my mind..

Yankees to wear Derek Jeter patch

By Darren Rovell
ESPN.com

The New York Yankees announced Tuesday that the team will wear a patch of Derek Jeter's final-season logo on all player hats and uniforms from Sept. 7, the day that the shortstop will be honored at Yankee Stadium, through the end of the season.
The baseballs with Jeter logos that will be put in play on Sept. 7, and the uniforms used in the game and throughout the rest of the season will be sold by Steiner Sports, company president Brandon Steiner said.

Steiner also has an exclusive autograph deal with Jeter and has been selling more than 200 Jeter-signed products, including game-used jerseys that retail for $25,000.
Leading up to Jeter's final games, an even greater flow of merchandise has hit the shelves. New Era is selling a three-cap box of Jeter hats for $150. The hats, which are available only at Yankee Stadium and official Yankees stores, are limited to 2,014 sets.
New Era Cap president Pete Augustine told ESPN.com that the company, which has been making hats since 1920, has never celebrated a player like this.
"As soon as he announced this was going to be his final season, we could see the market was hungry for it," Augustine said. "We've never seen this much interest from a player perspective, and I'm not sure we ever will."
New Era has made more than 50 Jeter products for sale, including a white leather fitted hat for $99.99.
"We literally can't keep product in stock," Augustine said. "We make it, it sells out."
New Era sells more Yankees caps than any other team, as 23 percent of the company's Major League Baseball business this year has been generated off the Yankees logo. Augustine said Jeter's final season has helped push the numbers by a few percentage points.
The Yankees will also be selling a commemorative Jeter issue of Yankees Magazine for $20.
Jeter's No. 2 jersey is the best-selling jersey in the league this year, according to MLB spokesman Matt Bourne, and Nike is seeking to further capitalize on its spokesman by trademarking "RE2PECT," which it is already using on gear sold in stores.
Tickets for Derek Jeter Day, which the Yankees announced on July 18, have become among the hottest tickets of the year, along with Sept. 25, his last home game.

I was wondering when the Yankees were going to honor him. I'm surprised it's Sept. 7th. I figured they'd do it the last home game. That should be really cool.
