On Thur Jan 16 this excerpt was in my post in the thread on Cheating in the NFL:

Not to change the subject OR SAY THERE"S A FIX but here's something along that line to consider. The NFL can't be very excited about the possibility of New England in the Super Bowl. The host city generates ton's of revenue from the fans of the teams in the Bowl. With New England being so close there would be a lot of day trippers which will effect the bottom line.

Hey, maybe it just worked out. I thought the league preference mattered and it figured in my going with Denver. If you noticed we didn't see any of those late questionable hits on Brady getting flagged. Of course that was good for me and any other Denver backers.

The hit on Talib has been questioned by Belichick but the one thing that's clear on that play. Welker is clearly blocking and actually blowing up Talib before the attempted catch. That's clearly offensive pass interference but no flag.

Coincidences? Maybe but it's nice when you can expect those things to go your way.

Pats lost because they was outplayed and outcoached...not because of one guy who was taken out in 2nd Qtr.

Who, exactly, "day trips" to a game with a 6:25 pm (really 6:40) kick?

The SuperBowl is not an event for the fan of the teams. It is a corporate event.

Belichick is such a hypocrite. Guess, he hasn't reviewed the film where Cromartie gets hit in much the same way as Talib and has to go out of the game. Speaking of penalties how about the holding call/pass interference that wasn't flagged in the end zone. Even Nance and Simms couldn't believe that non call. Officiating had nothing to do with New England being totally outplayed. Brady isn't the Brady of 2005 and even with the mediocre receivers that he has presently.

Exactly.....besides, what everyday fan can afford-it...(NYC)...that is why the super Bowl (today) is a crock-of-horse-sh*t.

Who day trips? Are you serious there would have been hordes making the 90 minute drive just for the day. When you see ton's of orange in the stands do you think they are just on a one day jaunt? If you think the NFL and more importantly NYC aren't relieved that NE isn't one of the participants your just not looking at things realistically.
When the Eagles played in Jacksonville in 05 myself and many Philadelphians drove down for two days. We had no hotels just a good old fashioned road trip. That was longer than 90 minutes.

To support my case for years people have been clamoring for the Super Bowl to be played on Saturday Night. No work the next day a perfect scenario for the general public. But the reason it never even gets considered is after a city forks over huge amounts of money to get the game they expect to generate large revenues for the town. A Saturday night game would first take away one of the prime party nights where visitors go out and spend lots of cash. Second it would have people leaving earlier making Sunday a shell of the revenue generating day it is. As long as the cities pay huge sums they expect returns on their investment. If you don't think it matters having part of your audience so close they can visit without hotels and all weekend stays then economics escape you.

Like I said originally for whatever reason the powers that be are smiling because Denver will be in town.

you are out of your mind. 90 minute drive? better work on your geography.

Fucking "day trippers"? Dude your posts get more wacky everyday. There is about 2% of posters on this website that agree with your conspiracy theories.

Who the fuck is going to drive to the NYC and back in the same day for the Superbowl??? No one. Especially since the small amount of fans that could afford a ticket will have the cash to stay overnight.

^ LOL I was just going to say that, 90 minutes, wtf?!

How is driving to Jacksonville for an overnight stay comparable to a "day trip" anyway?

If you think the NFL and more importantly NYC aren't relieved that NE isn't one of the participants your just not looking at things realistically.

Someone staying in a hotel in NYC does not help the NFL's "bottom line"

Anyway, hotel rooms were already scarce before the playoffs started. Do yourself a favor, give some hotels in the Phoenix area a call and ask them how things are looking for the weekend of Feb 1, 2015.

My goodness are these posts uninformed...

Denver or NE wouldnt be much different in the SB, both teams have big followings nationally. But SF has a much bigger fan base than Seattle nationally, so the league would rather have SF than Sea

First off this isn't a conspiracy theory. I just threw in some things that could be second guessed. Second if you think the percentage of people that believe games are in some way tampered with is only 2% then your math is equally flawed.

For arguments sake let's just say the game was 100% legit. That doesn't change the fact that there are preferred groupings and less desired groupings. If you don't think NYC considered the four possibilities and had preferences as to who the two teams are then your just being ignorant. I did some searching online and here's an example of someone thinking the same as me. It was obviously written before Sunday:
Dan Flannery, chief operating officer of Morgan's Hotel Group, which operates four properties in the city. He worries that too many New Englanders would simply drive in for the game and go home the same day.

Now in fairness I did see others suggest that NE would be a good choice due to their large fan base so maybe I am wrong.

As to the geography lessons my reference to a 90 minute trip there are NE fans closer than Boston proper. I was referring to the closest fans who are scattered throughout Conn. People south of Hartford are in a 90 minute range. Even the 4 hours it takes from Boston is something I would think people would do. As for the renting of hotels not effecting the NFL bottom line as I said you don't understand economics. The NFL profits from the fees the city pays to get the Super Bowl. The city pays on the assumption they will make lots of money and hotels will be packed with spenders. The more a city makes the more the NFL wants from future bidders. The term day tripper is a reference to short term traveler it doesn't have to be someone who makes the round trip in a day but driving down and then leaving town and staying in a cheap motel is what people that can will do. To say people that can afford a ticket to the game have the money to stay is ridiculous. In 05 when we went most people could barely scrape up the money for the ticket. Everybody I talked to wanted to go so you pinched pennies where ever you could and that was in Jacksonville. Pinching pennies is harder in NYC making it more conducive for people who can to get out of town.

Really?

What are these fees, and where do they go?

You realize the next 3 SB sites are already on the books -
  • 2015: University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, Ariz.
  • 2016: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, Calif.
  • 2017: Reliant Stadium, Houston, Texas

This guy is though kind of like the JMag police and a master of the smiley face.

For starters here's an item that costs the host city almost nothing:

  • Provision of police, fire, ambulance, and other infrastructure services at no cost to the NFL

Then here's some of what is known through 2011 :
Over the years, insiders indicate that the politics of the bid process have ratcheted up considerably—as have the perks. The 2007 Miami bid committee threw in the use of a yacht for each of the 32 owners, while Tampa offered all the teams free golf. The 2011 North Texas group went green instead, offering the NFL an additional $1 million to cover game-day expenses at Cowboys Stadium, enticing enough as that new facility is on its own.
The bid process is also "shrouded in secrecy, like someone had found the Holy Grail," says Ted Ferris, chairman of the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority, the regional agency in charge of University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale and an organization heavily involved in the roll-up to Super Bowl XLII in 2008.
"Our former chairman, John Benton, gave an apt description of what our role was in the bid process," Ferris says. "We were working with the Bidwill family [the Arizona Cardinals’ owners], and information was getting passed back and forth. But we never saw the entire bid document. As Benton said, if you view the bid as the plans for an airplane, we were given only the plans for a wing—the stadium and what the authority would commit to do for the NFL. We had no clue what the airplane looked like. We just knew what the wing looked like."

You actually think they just pick cities out of the goodness of their hearts?

It doesn't matter what kind of fan base there is right now. What matters is how either one of Seattle or S. Frans defenses would absolutely throttle Manning! Let's see what Peyton does to Sherman? He is a IDIOT but he cannot be beat!! By the way, I'm a 49er loyal.

All "warm-weather" locations.....How did he Meadowland i.e. (NYC) land a Super Bowl (night football game played in the middle of winter). The guys in the sands will freeze their balls- off. $$$$$$$ It's all about money. It will be interesting to see how much nudity will be on display during the half-time show....the cheer-leaders will be covering up everything including their most important "ass-set"......(the unions will intercede on their behalf).....nothing is sacred anymore.

You are the master of moving the goal posts and straw men.

See, I never said putting on a Super Bowl costs a city nothing. You claimed that a host city pays the NFL a fee to host the SuperBowl.

What is the fee?

Nice Straw Man.

You said the the host city pays "fees" to the NFL to host the SuperBowl.

What is the fee, and who collects it?

yesterday's news said the nose bleed seats cost approximately $2,800 while the field level 50 yarder is better than $25K per seat

Now you got me depressed about the cheer leaders covering up.

The least expensive ticket on Stub Hub was $2,500 yesterday morning.

Despite Johnny's contention, the SuperBowl is not an event for fans of the teams playing. The NFL doesn't care if NE fans come or go or whether or not they "day trip"

unbelievable costs so a fan can freeze their asses-off...The NFL has the nerve to call this a football game.
