BOSTON – A Massachusetts state senator photographed while allegedly stuffing thousands of dollars in bribe money into her sweater has resigned.
Dianne Wilkerson's resignation was announced Wednesday by state Senate President Therese Murray. Wilkerson was indicted a day before on eight counts of attempted extortion.
The Democrat had faced increasing pressure to step down and possible expulsion by her Senate colleagues since she was arrested last month.
The 53-year-old Wilkerson issued a statement saying she would have no further comment. She was in her eighth term on Beacon Hill.
If convicted, Wilkerson could face up to 20 years in prison.

Republican Scandals in 2007
Submitted by Bob Fertik on September 2, 2007 - 9:35am. Republicans
When Republicans were swept out of power in 2006, they blamed the Mark Foley scandal for their losses and declared an end to Republican scandals.

So how's that working out?

Keep this list handy and send it to any Republicans you know who think their party's scandals are behind them.

Typical punter. What does your post have to do with the thread topic? Let me guess, when your mommy or daddy got onto you you would throw your brother or sister under the bus to try and deflect attention away from you.

How spineless you are.

Get real!

Do you think Frustrated Zit brought this up because as a Texan he is deeply worried about the workings of the Mass. legislature, no, he did it in an attempt to embarrass Democrats. He can find plenty of crooked politicians right here in Texas but mostly they are Republican.

Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner Arrested in Bribery Case | 11/21/2008 | Michele McPhee and Jessica Fargen

Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner was arrested at City Hall on federal bribery charges early this morning – two days after his fellow lawmaker disgraced state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson was indicted for selling Beacon Hill influence for $23,500 in bribe monies, the Herald has learned.
Turner was arrested on charges that are connected to the Wilkerson probe, said FBI spokeswoman Gail Marcinkiewicz.
Turner, who lives in Roxbury, was arrested just after 7 a.m. at City Hall, said Marcinkiewicz. Authorities said they first attempted to arrest him at his home, but he wasn’t there.
U.S. Marshals are transporting Turner to Worcester at this hour. He will be arraigned in Worcester Federal Court this morning.
Turner – a staunch supporter of Wilkerson’s even after she lost her bid for reelection in the primary – was among the politicians named in the 32-page FBI affidavit that was released after Wilkerson’s arrest at her Roxbury home three weeks ago.
Turner was arrested on a federal warrant from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the FBI tells the Herald. “There will be more details to follow,” Marcinkiewicz said.
