The letter said Bennett was an honor student and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who plans to go on a mission in September.

"A felony conviction for assault will make his desire to complete his mission impossible," they wrote.

no need to try and politicize this. It is an outrageous case, just like when any person with political connection gets lenient treatment. More proof that judges and lawyers are the most vile hypocrites - they can excuse away any behavior as long as it doesnt happen to them or their families.

Instead of trying to pin it on 'repugs' how about take your blinders off and look at the Yavapai County Prosecutor's office. County attorney Sheila Polk has a statement posted making excuses for what she is doing:

The outrage should be directed at them and at the judge in the case, if he accepts these plea bargains. It is no suprise to me since there are many cases, especially ones involving kids and/or sexual perverts where a judge trivializes it and lets them off on probation and then they pop up later and commit a murder or some more heinous crime.

t3a is right on this one. This is a bad story, but similar things happen every day (regardless of political affiliation).
IMO, just an issue with judges as a whole.
