let's try to make some green on this hazy monday afternoon.

r1: delaware joe. miller colt looked good breaking his maiden first out and gets a very cozy outside draw in this one.

nice way to start.

r2: pass me teh sugar. the two inside horses hold all the cards in here as both have shown good early lick. does that result in a duel/meltdown scenario or does one of the speed put the other away and roll all the way to the wire? i see the latter as the more likely scenario and i gie the advantage to 'sugar, who i think can outfoot the one and enjoys being drawn outside of her rival.

i think i had the right idea w/ sugar, but she shortened stride dramatically and faded in the final 150 yards.

r3: mystification. warren gelding missed the break in his debut but did finish up well, though it looked more impressive visually than in reality as the pace was quick and melted down late. 'myst goes for a potent second timeout conditioner and meets a field that should have enough early pace to allow him to run on wide, late.

we may be on to carryover city after brinson, who figured to be closing along with the 6 and 7, was puzzlingly underbet and got home at a big number.

r4: plan for fun. this is a very interesting betting race and while the pace may not be hot enough to let this grizzled vet get up in time, i'm going to back this stone closer, whose connections once had fairly high hopes for this gelding.

r5: hot n' dusty. usually i'm loathe to take a firster in a race where the experienced horses aren't proven losers, but this unusual heat filly (surprise, trained by barry abrams) looks like she may be well meant in here. the mitigating my enthusiasm is the two straight gate drills, something i don't normally like to see as it often indicates a horse that didn't do well in its initial go from the gate. the digest workout notes indicate she broke well both times, so i'll take my chances at a very square price.

'dusty ran well at 18-1 for 3rd and won't be a maiden for long...

g6: genuine magic. tough race to cap but it appears full of early pace which should set up well for 'bay, who made a monsterous (though premature) middle move and still had enough in the tank to hold on.

hmn. here's the last two as i take off for the day.

r7: filter. think the race goes through this filly who duled on turf in a useful prep at hollywood. drawn to the outside, she'll be tough to catch.

r8: lemon supreme. word's out on this filly, so i won't be surprise a price more in the neighborhood of 9/5, but we shall see. 'supreme is by a sire who has outperformed my expectations in the breeding shed and is sent out by a very good debut trainer.

frankel filly dead on the board as 5th choice and 'supreme got the trip and gutted out a nice victory. opening click at 6/5 (thanks in no small part to me), but we got a decent 3/1 closing number.
