White laid out the first claimed pay per view figure in the wake of the heavily-hyped mega fight during the taping of the latest edition of UFC’s own SnoopCast.
If White’s words are indeed true, that comprehensively blows the Mayweather-Pacquiao mark - an eye-watering 4.6 million - out of the water by almost two million.
And that’s just for PPV buys in the United States.
However, there is a bit of a wrinkle in the record PPV figure White is claiming, with the fallout from technical issues expected to impact the final revenue figure.
White has pledged refunds for those who endured the frustration of a service outage in the live stream of the fight via UFC.tv.
“We always try to put on the most exciting fights,” White said in a statement on social media.
“We want our fans to have the best experience when watching our events. Unfortunately, we didn’t deliver the way we wanted on Saturday because of NeuLion’s technical issues on UFC.tv.
“As usual, we always take care of our fans and will fix this. We have started processing refunds immediately for anyone that could not access the fight after purchase.”
The UFC.tv feed wasn’t the only one hit with technical issues, with fans buying the fight through Showtime, Verizon, Comcast also reporting outages, with mmajunkie reporting one Showtime customer is pursuing a class-action lawsuit against the provider.
