Curt Schilling expressed the big expectations he has for the Chicago Cubs in coming years in an interview on Wednesday morning.
Schilling went as far as to liken the Cubs to the New England Patriots.

“If you look at what’s happened there, I don’t believe the Ricketts family will meddle in baseball ops. You know that’s one of the reasons Theo left here,” Schilling said. “I think they will leave him to his vices and let him do what he’s going to do. And left alone with the people he’s got, now he’s in a market where — and Joe Maddon‘s managing a team where he doesn’t have to maximize value for five years and watch a guy walk. That’s a deadly combination for me. They could set themselves up to kind of be the Patriots for the next 10, 15 years. With that much talent, and the money, new stadium.

Schilling went on to speculate that if Theo Epstein wins a World Series in Chicago, he will quickly start to look for his next frontier. Schilling threw out the Cleveland Indians as being a potential landing spot.

So win 1 World Series from 2015 to 2025? Possibly on a fluke throwing error in the bottom of the 9th in a tie game?

Getting just a little ahead of yourself Curt. Win one or two WS then we'll have a conversation.

i actually agree with him, if they dont screw with what they have in place, being in a big market they can hang on to some of these guys and be contenders for the next decade, plus their farm system is still loaded....henry and the bozo's in boston should have left him alone to do his thing, thats why Kraft is so great he knows he isnt a football guy he just lets Belichick do his thing

Big leap for Curt, but he is known for taking big leaps. Hopefully the Cubs do better than his failed video game company.

I like how the Cubs are built, but to compare them to the most dominate NFL franchise in the last 20 years is too much.

does anyone know what their lineup or staff will look like in 5 years?

Madden will probably be their coach. He may be the best in the game so he may be their Belichick. But who is their Brady? Can you have a Brady in baseball?

I think the Cubs are a great story, I wouldn't mind seeing them or any of the final four win it all, but predicting the greatest franchise in baseball since the 1930's Yankees may be hyperbole

You can't predict greatness, it happens

Not really, but Bryant will likely be a Cub for a long time and will probably be their best all-around player.

You can't have a pitcher that is equivalent to a HOF quarterback. Those guys go from dominant to average or hurt from 1 season to the next. 6 months ago, no one maybe outside of Cubville heard of Arrieta. Although since I follow Indiana baseball, I am very well aware of Kyle Scwarber. Maybe he can be their "Brady". I also followed Sam Travis who was a Red Sox 5th rounder or somewhere around there pick that is in the minors.
