If he can somehow get to 250 wins (very doubtful) he has an outside shot on a very lean year for HOF voters and definitely will not get in right away like the four cinches still pitching - Maddox, Glavine, Hoffman and Clemens..

Pedro looks like he is in the same boat as Schilling - outside chance guys that need another two good years and time is running out.

very doubtful get to 250 wins? I would say its almost a LOCK... If Schilling pitches 2 more years after this year which he has said he would like to give him an average of 15 wins per season I think he will hit 250

It feels like there is a curt schilling HOFer thread started once a week.

And no, he will not get into the HOF. First off, he has been great in spurts during his career, but not consistent enough. Second, he is a jackass that rubs alot of sportswriters the wrong way. That will hurt any borderline player.

Since when did Schilling average 15 wins a season? He has only won more than 15 games 5 times in his career. He has won exactly 15 3 times. Not to mention being and injury prone 41 year old does not bode well for 35 starts the next 2 years.

Pedro has almost the same amount of wins in over 100 fewer career starts. Pedro was far dominant for far longer than schilling and has a better shot at the HOF. I would vote yes on Pedro and vote no on schilling.

Yes, I really do think they are in the same boat when it comes to getting into the HOF. Pedro is stuck on 206 wins which will not get him in. Coming off rotator cuff surgery there is no reason to think he can ever be a big winner again. Last year he went 9-8 with a 4.48 ERA before going on the DL in September and hasn't had a start since. His last great year was 2002 and he hasn't won more than 16 games in a season since then.

I make them both big dogs to get in as things stand right now.

He may have 35-40 wins in him..if he were to put up say 2-3 15 win seasons , he would pull into position...at this point I would say he has next to no chance....too many people are giving him way to much credit for the latter yrs when he was just above avg for the first half of his career..

The arguement against

Up until age 33 he was a slightly above average ,compiling a record of 110- 89.
11 seasons where he was a .500 or less pitcher.
He was 52-52 at age 29.

Actually Shilling has started 425 games to Pedro's 375. Granted Schill did some relief work over the years that Pedro did not.

Pedro is not likely to get in either....I compare him to Albert Belle , a guy who was great but just not for long enough...the Red Sox were very smart not to sign Pedro, after the WS with the Sox it was pretty easy to evaluate his arm was falling off.

If Pedro doesn't get in and get in quickly, I will never in my life visit the HOF or have another debate/discussion about it. IMO, he could retire tomorrow and should be first ballot. He was the most dominant pitcher since Bob Gibson and dominated for a long period of time. His league comparative ERA is the best of all time, average 10+ Ks/9IP, has a winning percentage of 69%+, more than 200 wins and fewer than 100 losses, 3000 Ks in 2650 IP, 2000 H and a WHIP of barely over 1. He has had an ERA of below 2.1 3 times, something only Clemens has done in the past 20 years, only Kevin Brown (once) and Maddux (twice) have done it since 1985.

I said it the other day and I will say it again, dude is a modern day Koufax, anyone who doesn't recognize that doesn't recognize his ass from his elbow.

Koufax got in on 6 good years. Pete has 3 Cys, 2 second places, a 3rd and 4th. F*er better get in and get in fast. If Smoltz or Biggio get in and he doesn't, I will go insane. Don f*ing Sutton, Gaylor Perry and Phil Niekro are in. God this drives me crazy.

fhmesq44, I agree.

Pedro put together some of the most amazing years of any pitcher EVER.

He did things in his prime we might not see again for some time.

Pedro could take the ball and make it rise as it was crossing the plate. It's the most rediculous shit I have ever seen a pitcher do.

He put together several sub 3 ERA seasons (8). There wasnt anyone he couldnt strike out.

He was the man at the All-Star game. He stuck out those all-stars like it was easy. I've seen Pedro K the side all swinging several times.

The only guy I got to see pitch better than him, mmm maybe Nolan Ryan.

He was the Second coming of Koufax. Believe it.

Ryan? Ryan couldn't even sniff Pedro's jock strap... IMO Nolan Ryan is the most overrated player in MLB history... and that may be a reach but people talk about this guy like he is an all time great... He almost has 300 loses for god sakes... he has only 32 more wins then loses in over 600 decisions... that is not greatness... He pitched for a long time and threw very very very hard and struck people out... Greatest strike out pitcher no doubt... but as great as people make him seem... Not in my mind...

Pedro absolutely yes

Schilling no... He is behind Pedro, Mussina, Smoltz, Glavine, Maddux, Hoffman, Rivera, Clemens, Randy Johnson.... That is 7 guys right there in front of him... Personally don't think he has a chance
