Im not as surprised at them being a favorite at -150 as I am at yankees being plus 260.. I would have thought +140 or 160 to be right. Seems as if Vegas wants money on the Yanks as if they wont hold up..

POSADA out......

I would rather take the YANKS at +260 to finish 3rd or worse than winning the division.

I actually think TB, NY, and BOS are all very, very even........but the Yanks are currently in 3rd place.

The amazing race: Handicapping the Sox, Rays and Yanks as they head for homestretch

<!--//article Image//--><!--//article//-->CHICAGO - It’s not quite a sprint yet but with less than two months to go in the season, the race in the American League East is ready to come off the turn and head down the stretch.
The Tampa Bay Rays enjoy a 2-game lead on the Red Sox [team stats] after their 2-1 loss to the Mariners last night in Seattle, and although they have a head of steam after their thrilling ninth-inning winning rally on Wednesday, they do not necessarily have the inside track.
The Red Sox are keeping pace with Tampa Bay and are 2 games ahead in the wild card chase. Then there are the Yankees, 3 out of the wild card and six out in the East. They should not be dismissed yet. Much stranger things have happened than a late-season Yankees surge.
Here’s a look at what could be deciding factors for each of the three contenders:
Red Sox
Schedule: Twenty-five of their remaining 47 games will be played at Fenway Park [map], the most favorable home-road advantage of the three teams. Less than half, 19 exactly, of their remaining games will be played against first- or second-place teams.
Injuries: The revival of Jacoby Ellsbury [stats], the arrival of Jason Bay and continued production from Kevin Youkilis [stats] and Dustin Pedroia [stats] must be maintained because there will be concern about how soon David Ortiz [stats] can get beyond his clicking left wrist and start producing. Getting Bartolo Colon back could be a September surprise. With Jed Lowrie on board, nobody seems too concerned about rushing Julio Lugo [stats] and his injured quad back.
Pitching: Clay Buchholz and his continued struggles are a concern, but since he is young, nobody is panicking. If anything, Colon could offer insurance. The quality start by Beckett on Tuesday was reassuring but the time is now for him to string together dominating starts. The club could still boost its bullpen from the outside, but lately the relievers have been more consistent.
Hitting: By the time the series begins in Chicago tonight, the shot on [URL="http://www.bostonherald.com/search/index.bg?topic=Mike+Lowell"]Mike Lowell[/URL]’s strained right hip flexor should have taken effect. His production has been paltry - no RBI in his last eight games. If it’s not the injury, what’s going on there? J.D. Drew [stats] will likely be back in the middle of the lineup soon, with Ellsbury back at the top. The lineup is deep enough to cover up Ortiz and Lowell’s sub-par production for a little while.
Intangibles: The Sox hardly changed their team in the offseason after a world championship. Now we learn if their experience comes into play. Veteran leadership, experience under pressure, lots of superstar-caliber talent and a favorable schedule are all in their favor.
Rays
Schedule: Twenty-nine of their last 48 games are on the road, and the Rays’ road record of 23-29 is an Achilles’ heel. Plus, they are 0-6 at Fenway, 2-4 at Yankee Stadium. They have a lot to prove here. Nineteen of their final 48 games will be against first- or second-place teams.
Injuries: Carl Crawford’s left hamstring has been a problem on the artificial turf at home. The road perversely favors that concern. Rocco Baldelli may have gotten over his mitochondrial issue and begin playing very soon, a potentially big acquisition. Shortstop Jason Bartlett (bruised finger) is nearly at full strength.
Pitching: The Rays have not made a major change to their rotation all season, plus minor-league phenom David Price is ready to be unleashed. All teams would like to have this depth. One issue: Scott Kazmir has not pitched beyond 5 innings in seven of his last nine starts. They say he’s healthy.
Hitting: Baldelli, always an injury risk, still could mean a major upgrade. Rookie Evan Longoria, Carlos Pena and Crawford are ever-present threats but the Rays rank only 10th in the league in runs, seventh in OPS. They can be contained.
Intangibles: Manager Joe Maddon will win A.L. manager of the year honors for making his team believe in themselves. He’s no pushover, having just benched B.J. Upton for not running out a grounder. This team is untested, however, in a pennant race. They could remain oblivious and thrive but who would bet big on that?
Yankees
Schedule: Yankees are the best of these three teams on the road with a .500 record going into last night. Twenty-eight of their final 47 games will be on the road. They face the stiffest schedule: More than half, 25, of their remaining games will be against first- or second-place teams.
Injuries: Joba Chamberlain’s shoulder problem is potentially devastating to a team that has already lost pitcher Chien-Ming Wang (right foot) until at least October and catcher Jorge Posada for the season. Phil Hughes (ribcage) is less than two weeks away from returning to the rotation, and now there is hope that left fielder Hideki Matsui (knee) could be ready by September. Catcher Pudge Rodriguez is day to day with a bruised knee. Lately, closer Mariano Rivera has been having upper back spasms.
Pitching: Hope begins and ends with Chamberlain, who is likely out at least two weeks. Starters Andy Pettitte and especially Mike Mussina have come up big but must it maintain for the duration. If Hughes and Ian Kennedy produce in the rotation, they can hang in there.
Hitting: The formidable lineup has yet to mash with consistency, although the effect of Jason Giambi shaving his mustache has yet to sink in. Johnny Damon, A-Rod, Bobby Abreu, Derek Jeter will need to produce more to power past weaker pitching staffs.
Intangibles: Seven years and counting since their last championship. The mounting injuries could quickly become insurmountable, making second-guessers gloat over the team’s unwillingness to part with Kennedy and Hughes in the offseason to get Johan Santana. Not much beyond a really hot streak can keep their postseason hopes alive.
