Could be. We'll see. I'm certainly not sold on St. Louis being any kind of unbeatable.

Need Ramirez to heat up like he's capable of. Might not have all the numbers yet, but Prior and Zambrano might be the best 1-2 in baseball.

things at blown save university will never be good enough until they get the closer situation squared away.

p.s.

kerry wood blows. he's living off two games...that 20 strikeout game in 1998 and the playoff game against the braves in 03. the cubs should trade him for a closer and a left fielder and they might have a shot...

blue, might just be a tease but Dempster looks like he might be well-suited for the job. Gotta prove it over time, of course, but he has the mentality and the pitches. Might be a good role for him. Rusch seems better suited as the 5th starter.

As for Wood, he's probably been over-hyped some but at the samr time you're underrating his accomplishments too. His overall career numbers are not exactly shabby, despite the moderate win totals due to lack of support and injuries. A pretty large sample size with a 3.69 ERA. That's a solid ERA for a starter. Hasn't quite lived up to the talent and hype, but saying he "blows" is a bit much.

They're only what, 4.5 games out of the Wild Card race?

WAY too early to give up on the Cubs at this point. Didn't Houston make up a much bigger deficit last season, with way fewer games left?

Everyone knows he hasn't won 15, doesn't necessarily tell the story. 68-51, 3.69 ERA for a team that is well under .500 during his tenure isn't exactly bad. Last year w/injury at 8-9 was his first season under .500 record.

As for Dempster, the jury is out. Had 4 real good ones in a row, we'll see. I believe he has the stuff.
