I don't think Favre has handled the situation very well but he's getting ripped too much.

I feel that Thompson has been passive / aggressive trying to get rid of him from day one without angering the fans. I think that's part of why Favre has been reluctant to decide what to do the last few years. Favre was tight with Mike Sherman so I think that was issue one. Favre has no interest in staying in Green Bay over the summer to help Rodgers these last years. I think that pissed Thompson off.

I think that retiring Favre's jersey in the 1st regular season game was sending a signal too. The signal was don't even think about coming back. I bet the first game works great (NOT EVEN IF RODGERS GETS HURT -- YOU'RE NOT COMING BACK)

Packer President / CEO Mark Murphy told ESPN "Ted Thompson, Mike McCarthy and I looked at the entire schedule and felt the first game would be an ideal time to have the event. I spoke with Brett, as did Ted and Mike, about which game to choose. Ultimately, through our communications, we decided the first game would work great."

This reminds me alot of Bill Belichek running off Bernie Kosar in Cleveland. Belichek never wanted Kosar as his starter and tried to get rid of him at every turn. He couldn't outright do it in the beginning though because Browns fans would turn on the organization too much. The organization didn't respect that many of us Browns fans (myself included) would have rather lost with our favorite player at the helm then start the new era. I still can't stand Belichek to this day.... Most Packer fans want to watch Favre finish his career under any circumstances and the team just doesn't get it.

I think McCarthy has just been trying to keep the peace this whole time. Thompson is playing a very dangerous game here and if they go through with this -- and 2008 is a non Super Bowl year -- they'll run Thompson outta there in a hurry. By trying to hand the job to Rodgers - Thompson is putting him under more pressure than any QB in the NFL. That's not a good situation. Replacing a legend is no fun when they retire on their own terms but this would be a nightmare.

Favre should just go away. Quit f***ing with GB. He does this every year and expects the team to continue to bend over backward to accommodate him.

GB went out and drafted a QB because they rightly assumed Brett was gone. Had they known he would come back they probably wouldnt have drafted one.

They make plans with Rodgers all during the offseason. The type of offense they want. The players they want to draft and get for free agency. The offensive game plans, etc. Then they ahve to go back and redo it with Brett

It's BS.

I'm starting to like Rogers Clemens more than Favre right now and I tire of reading thread after thread and all the TV spots about him. Just MOVE ON...PLEASE!

He got people from the Packers asking him every week, what was his thinking on a final decision... common... the guy just likes attention, he should retire now and not finish his long-time career at the NFL with a different team than the Packs, that will be odd...

Favre will always be my favorite QB of all time. In 10 years, I am going to try to forget all of this retirement crap.

But now I hear that he doesn't want to play for TB because it's too hot?

Brett, during training camp in the summer it is hot everywhere!

Fuck all you Favre haters!

If he decides he wants to come back and play he has earned the right to make that call. What kind of A 1 Assclown would start Aaron Fucking Rogers over Favre? Ted Thompson better hope the fuck to high heaven they win at least ten games and make the playoffs. Otherwise he can bend over and kiss his ass good bye. They take their football serious in Wisconsin. Kind of like their milk and cheese.:103631605

I would start Rodgers over Favre and I would have done it two years ago. He is the future and he is a hell of a QB. He is the reason I am not taking the team total under for the Packers his season. Right now he is a better QB than Favre.

The Packers won't make the playoffs this year IMO, but it won't be because Favre isn't there. Favre should just take the backup job if he wants to come back and stop whining like a little bitch. I've always liked him, but he is turning into an annoying attention whore that thinks he's still in his prime.

Naaa...he isn't a whining attention whore. Thompson is an asshole and he probably won't be around after this year. This is just an absolute disaster if you ask me. I just can't see why they would 100% commit to Rogers until the last minute. Had training camp started and a few weeks had gone by, then you might be onto something if Favre all of a sudden wanted back. They don't lose anything now if they'd have handled it better and they would have Favre slinging TD passes. Instead they have a media relations nightmare on their hands.

I believe the Packers have offered the chance to retrun and compete for the starting position. His stance is "why." A bit of a primadonna wouldn't you say. And why would you want someone back who during his retirement press conference stated he lost the will to play and wasn't 100% committed to the game. Kind of tough for a coach to know after BF has thrown int # 3 whether or not Brett is playing at 35%, 70% . . committment level. This is 95% his fault. Now he's cavorting with the Vikings and TT caught him with his hand in the cookie jar. Favre will not take another snap as long is he is under contract with the packers.

BTW, I'm a season ticket holder and owner (who will be there next week). I was a Favre apologist until last week when he asked for his release. He's no better than T.O at this point.

Brett has put his own agenda ahead of that of his team and fans, which have supported him more fantically than maybe any player in the history of sports. I can't remember TO holding any team hostage year after year after year after . . . . His pouting like a little b*tch because TT didn't let him play GM and bring in Moss, Rivera, Wahle, Mooch. Seems like the moves Thompson made worked out pretty well last year, albeit a super bowl trip ruined by one errant pass.

All the things you listed show me a team leader that wants the team to get better so they can go deeper into the playoffs. Most employees in most businesses express an opinion on this or that.

Who wouldn't want Moss or Wahle or any of the other guys you listed and then when you didn't get them you'd be upset? You'd have to be crazy not to say you didn't want Moss. Were you following along last year when he caught TD pass after TD pass?

To you it's whining and snivelling. To me it's a true warrior wanting to make the team better in the quest of the trophy!

You don't want Moss because up until last season with the Patriots, he was a train wreck, a distraction in the locker room, and questionably committed when he played for the raiders. TT and MM have stressed the importance of team over individual. Moss doesnt exactly fit that profile.

Whale flamed out after two years in carolina. Obviously the coaches who evaluated his performance knew he wasn't worth retaining. Rivera was injured and played sparingly for the cowboys. Marriucci proved his worth as coach with the Lions. Can't really argue with any of the moves TT made.

I will never begrudge that Favre was/is a warrior. I enjoyed many of the games he played, however his behavior over the past few years, specifically the past two weeks, has placed him in the company of the rest of the primaddona professional athletes. The "aw shucks" hillibilly likablity shine is gone and has been replaced with a spoiled, snivelling overpaid whiner. Brett needs to suit up, win his spot back and all will be normal again in titletown.

This little game he's playing is a direct insult to every fan and previous player that laid the groundwork for our storied franchise. I hope he makes an appearance at Winters induction on Saturday and Starr, Kramer, Woods et al sit ol Brett down and explain to his place in the legacy of the Green Bay Packers. Maybe that dim bulb will finally illuminate agin.

Like I said earlier, he is my favorite QB of all time and I am a packer fan.

But every time he speaks out on the subject or makes excuses for last March, Vince Lombardi does another spin.

What a joke this guy is turning out to be! Making GB look bad for wanting to move on. He should have stayed retired. Now if GB doesn't doesn't come out and win every game people will be chanting his name adding pressure on the GB team. Unneeded BS

Brett Favre is the Packer legacy. Without him they would be the Lions.

Actually, the 1 Favre championship is pretty close to what the Lions have in their history (3). So your post should be that Brett Favres packer legacy is close to that of the Detroit Lions.

When I think of the Packers legacy and all time heroes I think more of Vince Lombardi and Bart Starr than I do Brett Favre.

I didn't grow up with those guys, my father did. He thinks of Starr and Lombardi.

We flew out from Seattle for the Pack/Hawks game and now he talks about Favre this and Favre that. What a performance in the blizzard. This from a guy who grew up in Madison and loves the Pack.

I grew up with Favre so those old timers are lost on me. When I think of the Packers I think of Favre.

If Green Bay is stupid enough to fire TT over all this mess, I promise you that guy won't be out of a job long.

I always enjoyed watching Favre, but this whole drama/mess was created 100% by his actions. For him to try and portray himself as the victim is a joke. I lose more and more respect for him every time he opens his mouth on the issue.

Yeah I never saw these two in action either and never grew up with either, but just from knowing the history of the game I think of these two when thinking of all time Packer greats. Favre is in the conversation right after them though.
