Angelle,
You are asking me a question I have no answer for!Friends of mine went there and informed me on an investment so I'm looking into it! Do you have any ideas where I should look?? I've been in the restaurant business as an owner or Head Chef for 28 years! So location is all I need to succeed!!

Hope you get some really good advice first before taking the plunge. One thing very noticeable about Tico restaurants is the feast or famine nature of them if you are looking to serve a tourist/gringo population. I went in May, just past the end of tourist season, and most restaurants were damn near empty. Those places back in March probably had waits to get into. So account for the fact you will make all your money during a 4 month season if that is indeed your plan. Also understand the effects of zoning on your business. Very misunderstood by Americans going into most other countries. If you open up a good restaurant in the US zoning helps prevent quick competition. If you open a good place in CR, someone will notice and often build some ramshackle place next door and eat into your business. You really have to be a cut above the competition to avoid this, so be very precise about what you establish. Before finding a realtor, I would suggest finding some good businessman down there and acquiring a good GM to run the place who has local experience. Those moves will make or break your business.

WildBill,
thanks for the advice! I respect you very much and wouldn't jump into anything to quickly! I'll be recruiting a top notch Restaurant person while I'm down there! If its a seasonal thing no problem as I will be there during busy time and I'll make sure the ship is run tight when I'm not! Won't be an overnight thing!

JIM..

There are many investment opportunities here, and land and restaurants are 2 very viable ones..I have many friends who are buying property all over CR..The "HOT SPOTS"..are definitely the beach properties on the Pacific Side..As for restaurants,if you serve quality food, please come here..The good places are packed, and they are few and far between..

I have lived here almost 4 years, and being a New Yorker I understand location and food..If I can be of any assistance, please call me..All my numbers are on my sites..

There are a few quality real estate people here..The food culture here is quite different than in the states..Great food though is universally understood..
