Everton vs Manchester United

“Get right spot” for Manchester United if there’s ever been one. A renewed vision for the club has been identified with the new Manager, and I really can’t see United not winning this game —- Everton is spiraling in a way that seems almost destined to end with a relegation. The Toffees are still suffering immensely via —- in particular, the absence of Yira Mina has meant Everton simply cannot keep the ball out of their own net, allowing 3+ goals 3 times in their last 6.

On the other side of the pitch, the time is now if ManU is to have any chance at top-four. For all intents and purposes, they will need the club’s best run of form they’ve displayed all season —- and while I’m not sure we’ll see that, what I do imagine we see is United score themselves into smiling against Frank Lampard’s Everton.

Arsenal vs Brighton and Hove Albion

Look I’ve got no reason to lie to you, I REALLY REALLY liked Arsenal mid-weed against Palace —— and well we all know how that turned out. So if I’m fooled twice in the same week by Arteta’s Gunners well then —- shame on me.

But much in the same vein as the United game —- much is being made of Arsenal’s failing over the last week, while not enough is being made of the opposition. Brighton has won just 3 games in 25 dating back to September —— and for all the xG Potter’s side creates, it just never seems to end with the round ball finding the big net. They’ve scored once in their last 7 games, and that goal came in a loss to Newcastle, not exactly inspiring form for the Seagulls.

So when the bookies are going to give me Arsenal -1 at +105 I’m going to take out the HAMMER.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham

3 Teams fighting for Champions League competition, all playing on the same day, all winning? Sounds like the makings of a thrilling race —- and that’s exactly what I’m thinking we see as I’m backing Conte’s Tottenham to get it done against Villa.

Tottenham handled business with ease against Newcastle last weekend, but it was the comments prior to the team left for the international break made by the manager that caught my eye —- for the first time since his hiring he spoke of “breakthroughs”, he spoke of progress, and he spoke with an eagerness that hadn’t been yet present. Now if this were just empty words without metrics to support it I’d be a fool to wager on his talking points —- but the performance has matched Cante’s rhetoric for Spurs of late.

Following the embarrassing defeat to Middlesbourough Tottenham has won 4 of their last 5 —- the sole defeat coming to ManU at Old Trafford. Over that time they’ve won each game by more than 1 goal, illustrating a hunger for more even when ahead. And of course, the re-emergence of the real British Prince Harry has made scoring all the easier for a Spurs side I’m backing to qualify for the Champions League come season end.

Watford vs Leeds

Sometimes I don’t leave the best for last, and today just so happens to be one of those situations —— at least in terms of the quality of soccer on display, as Roy Hodgson’s Watford takes on Leeds in what amounts to a must-win if Watford is to avoid relegation.

For Leeds, the stakes are equally as high, having fired Bielsa and appointed the American () the results have improved, though one must question the extent to which this Leeds side is capable of continuing the strong run of results. Injuries have continued to ravage this Leeds side who have become more defensively sound under the new direction, but they come up against a Watford side ripe to put to the sword.

Because try as he might Roy Hodgson’s attempt at escape now seems more and more unlikely. 3-points cut adrift, having played a game extra already, and with a team in between in better form, the trek ahead seems nigh impossible. Even with the breakthrough of Denis, and the continued impressive performances by Ismalia Sarr (who is garnering much interest from other Prem. Teams), Watford cannot keep a clean sheet, nor can they defend set-pieces.

Play — Leeds and Over 2.5 (+265)

I’m LEANING Leeds, but I’m not sure I get there —- again with the injury status of several Leeds starters still unclear, I’m going to wait till starting line-ups are released to place any wagers on the side. If Raphina and Koch do play I’m taking Leeds with the Over 2.5 at (+265)
